On September 5, Mr. Tran Anh Dung - Permanent Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee said that due to the impact of storm No. 3 (storm Yagi), the Provincial People's Committee decided to postpone the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of Giao Thuy district (1934 - 2024), receiving the First Class Labor Medal and the district achieving advanced new rural standards in 2023.
In the coming time, the development of storm No. 3 is very unpredictable, and Nam Dinh province is forecasted to be at very high risk of being affected by the storm from September 6 to 8. Nam Dinh province has issued invitations to the 90th anniversary of Giao Thuy district on September 8, but due to the impact of storm No. 3, it has announced the postponement of the event.
In Giao Thuy district, as of noon today (September 5), the total number of ships and boats taking shelter from storm No. 3 in the area is 734 with about 2,500 workers. Up to now, 18 ships are still moving to shelters.
At Ninh Co fishing port (Hai Hau district), Lao Dong reported that by noon on September 5, many boats had returned to their anchorage.
On the same day (September 5), the People's Committee of Nam Dinh province also sent a document to relevant departments and branches to deploy work to ensure the safety of the dike and irrigation systems to respond to storm No. 3.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Nam Dinh province requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, relevant departments, branches, districts, cities and the one-member LLC for exploiting irrigation works to urgently organize inspections, reviews and implement plans to protect dikes and vulnerable points.
Nam Dinh province pays special attention to protection plans for dyke lines that often have incidents when storms make landfall, and dyke and revetment locations that have had incidents in coastal districts but have not been handled or repaired, such as: Con Tron and Hai Thinh sea dykes and the Thinh Long sea dyke landslide incident on the Hai Hau sea dyke line.
At the same time, it is required to urgently complete the reinforcement of unsafe locations before the storm makes landfall; proactively respond to situations of prolonged heavy rain due to strong storm circulation and operate flood discharge regulation of reservoirs that can cause flooding in the river system.
