On the morning of May 11, at the 2nd Session, the People's Council (HĐND) of Dong Thap province, term XI, 2026 - 2031, Mr. Nguyen Van Vu Minh - Director of the Department of Home Affairs - presented the submission of the Provincial People's Committee proposing to pass a resolution approving the policy of establishing 11 wards including: Thuong Phuoc, Tram Chim, My Tho, Thap Muoi, Lap Vo, An Huu, Cai Be, Binh Phu, Chau Thanh, Vinh Kim and Go Cong Tay.
According to the submission, the establishment of wards aims to concretize the policy of arranging and consolidating administrative units; building a government model suitable for the urbanization process and the development orientation of the local urban space.

According to the plan submitted at the meeting, Thuong Phuoc ward was established on the basis of the original Thuong Phuoc commune with an area of 80.55km2 and a population of 59,822 people; Tram Chim ward from Tram Chim commune with an area of 90.23km2, population of 22,194 people; My Tho ward from My Tho commune with an area of 61.49km2, population of 50,552 people.
Thap Muoi ward was established from Thap Muoi commune with an area of 70.4km2, population of 45,621 people; Lap Vo ward from Lap Vo commune with an area of 85.2km2, population of 74,698 people; An Huu ward from An Huu commune with an area of 43.94km2, population of 51,637 people.

The province also proposed to establish Cai Be ward from Cai Be commune with an area of 41.14km2, population of 60,540 people; Binh Phu ward from Binh Phu commune with an area of 47.03km2, population of 51,637 people; Vinh Kim ward from Vinh Kim commune with an area of 25.57km2, population of 31,466 people; Chau Thanh ward from Chau Thanh commune with an area of 24.29km2, population of 57,070 people.
Go Cong Tay ward is proposed to be established on the basis of the original Vinh Binh commune with an area of 39.78km2 and a population of 45,445 people.
According to the Provincial People's Committee, the establishment of wards has been consulted with the people and received very high consensus, with a consensus rate of 94.13% to 99.98% of households in localities.
For Vinh Binh commune, people were consulted separately about the name Go Cong Tay ward. The result was that 99.98% of households agreed with the policy of establishing Go Cong Tay ward based on the original state of natural area and population size of the commune.

After consideration and discussion, the People's Council of Dong Thap province unanimously approved the policy of establishing 11 wards.
The transition from commune to ward is expected to contribute to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in the fields of planning, construction, land, population, urban order, environment and technical infrastructure. At the same time, it creates more favorable conditions in administrative reform, digital transformation and provision of public services to people and businesses. This is also considered an important preparation step to meet urban development requirements, complete the organizational structure of administrative management and improve the quality of service to people in the new period.
