More than 10,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes were seized in Can Tho

    Can Tho - In August and September, Can Tho City Market Management force caught 2 cases of smuggling cigarettes, seizing more than 10,000 packs of cigarettes.

    On October 4, the Market Management Department (QLTT) of Can Tho City said that in the first 9 months of 2024, the unit achieved remarkable results, with a total number of inspections: 580 cases, a total number of violations: 489 cases, and a total number of cases handled: 488 cases. Total amount of money collected for the budget: VND 5,923,179,507, value of confiscated goods: VND 144,500,000, value of goods forced to be destroyed: VND 1,207,850,000.

    Notably, in August and September 2024, the Can Tho City Market Management Department directed Market Management Team No. 4 and Market Management Team No. 1 to consecutively crack down on two cases of transporting contraband goods, namely smuggled cigarettes.

    On August 28, Market Management Team No. 4 inspected a Toyota Innova car with license plate 51G-637.60 that was stopped in front of an unnumbered house located in Lan Thanh 1 Area, Trung Kien Ward, Thot Not District, Can Tho City. The unit discovered that the vehicle driven by Mr. P.D.C (born in 1983) was transporting 13 black plastic bags containing 4,510 packs of smuggled cigarettes, including 1,400 Jet packs and 3,110 Hero packs.

    Then, on September 30, Market Management Team No. 1 discovered a Toyota Innova car with license plate 70A-413.65 parked in front of an unnumbered house in Binh Thanh Hamlet, Giai Xuan Commune, Phong Dien District, Can Tho City. Upon inspection of the vehicle, 19 black plastic bags containing 6,280 packs of smuggled cigarettes were found, including 1,050 Jet packs and 5,230 Hero packs.

    Considering that the two above cases have signs of crime, the Market Management Department of Can Tho City has transferred the entire case file, means and evidence of violation to the criminal prosecution agency for consideration and prosecution of criminal liability according to the provisions of law.
