Mobilizing petroleum thermal power sources and LNG sources
According to Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung - Director of the Electricity Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - the power supply in the first 6 months of 2025 has successfully completed the set target.
Regarding the power supply plan for the remaining months of 2025, according to the updated report of the National Power System and Power Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO), the total electricity production and import output for the whole year of 2025 is expected to reach 331.4 billion kWh, an increase of 7.39% compared to 2024, estimated at 95.4% compared to the 2025 Plan.
To ensure power supply, the national power system still needs to reserve the mobilization of petroleum heat and LNG sources to meet load needs, especially during peak hours in the Southern region when solar power is not distributed, Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung emphasized.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) in the last 6 months of 2025, EVN closely follows the actual scenario of load demand to update the power system operation plan.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan said that EVN recommends that relevant units continue to use updated hydrological data from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to serve the calculation of system operation plans and power supply for July as well as the last months of the year.
At the same time, EVN requested the National Power System Regulatory Center (NSMO) to closely coordinate and provide maximum support to member units in arranging power outage schedules for the construction of projects - especially key transport projects and important energy projects under the direction of the Prime Minister.
Quickly remove obstacles for renewable energy projects
Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized - units absolutely must not be subjective, need to maintain a high vigilance in all situations in power assurance. Units, according to their assigned functions and tasks, need to proactively develop detailed plans and deploy specific solutions to ensure the progress and quality of source and grid projects, in accordance with the VIII Power Plan and related adjustment plans that have been announced.
The Electricity Department shall preside over and closely coordinate with MONO to urgently develop a plan for electricity supply and operation of the national power system in 2026. Regarding loads, EVN coordinates with NSMO in forecasting the growth of electricity demand; assessing the commercial electricity component and the impact of the increase in distributed power sources, especially self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power" - Minister Nguyen Hong Dien pointed out.
Regarding the preparation of coal fuel for thermal power plants, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV), Dong Bac Corporation and thermal power plant investors proactively develop a coal production and supply plan. Units such as PVN, PV GAS... need to proactively develop plans for production, import-export and gas supply...
The Minister emphasized that Resolution 233/NQ-CP has issued quite synchronous and strong groups of solutions to remove obstacles related to investment mechanisms, electricity prices, and legal issues for completed solar and wind power projects. However, there are still some shortcomings in current implementation.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that relevant units, especially the Electricity Department, the Legal Department, NSMO and energy sector's corporations, urgently recommend appropriate consideration and resolution to competent authorities, ensuring legality and fairness in handling, not allowing half-time or one-sided handling, disrupting investment standards in the whole industry, affecting the investment environment, business trust, as well as creating unnecessary legal conflicts in the State management process.
Previously, speaking with the press about problems related to renewable energy projects, Deputy Director of the Electricity Department Mr. Bui Quoc Hung - said that on May 29, 2025, based on EVN's report on handling the FIT price mechanism for renewable energy projects, the Electricity Department also held a dialogue meeting with investors, with the participation of more than 36 business representatives and associations, to exchange, listen to opinions, and reflect on the progress of problem-solving.
