Helping poor families develop economically
In recent times, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Tuy Duc district has made a significant mark thanks to its practical activities.
Supporting breeding cows for poor and near-poor households is not only a material gift but also an opportunity to help people improve their livelihoods and gradually escape poverty.
In Quang Truc commune, more than 125 poor and near-poor households have received breeding cows to develop livestock farming. Thereby, bringing high economic development potential if properly cared for.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhuong, in Dak Huyt hamlet, Quang Truc commune, excitedly shared: "Before, my family was in a difficult situation in the area, we had to do all kinds of jobs to make ends meet."
According to Mr. Nhuong, after a period of saving up a little capital, plus a loan of 60 million VND from the policy bank for poor households. At this time, I started to buy some land, grow coffee and receive more contract land from the farm for agricultural cultivation.
“When the government supported breeding cows, I was really happy. My family also signed a commitment not to slaughter the cows but to raise them long-term for economic development. At first, I was quite worried because I had no experience in raising cattle.
However, after that, the experts came to the place to guide us on how to build barns, mix feed and take care of the cows to grow. I believe that if we take good care of them, the cows will be healthy and reproduce regularly, and soon our family will escape poverty and our life will become more and more prosperous."
Not far away, Mr. Nong Van Thuy, who also received breeding cows, shared, “My family moved from Cu Jut district to Quang Truc commune (Tuy Duc) in 2005. When we first came here, our family's life was really difficult.
At that time, the money I saved was only enough to buy a small garden. At first, I was not familiar with the land and climate, so I tried planting many types of plants but the productivity was not good.
According to Mr. Thuy, despite the difficulties, he still believes in a bright tomorrow. Mr. Thuy did not give up, and was able to borrow 90 million VND from the policy bank for poor households, plus 20 million VND from the clean water program to invest in land improvement and production development.
When receiving the breeding cows from the support program, Mr. Thuy's family's joy was multiplied. Mr. Thuy was very happy and appreciated this opportunity. Before receiving the cows, Mr. Thuy had carefully prepared everything from the barn to the food grown in the garden.
"From one breeding cow, I hope to raise a herd of cows, creating a stable source of income, helping my family's life become better and better" - Mr. Thuy excitedly said.
Officials follow people closely to develop the economy
To ensure effectiveness, local authorities do not stop at providing breeding cows but also focus on training and instructing people on how to build barns, care for, prevent diseases and develop cattle herds.
Agricultural extension officers are mobilized to closely follow each household, provide detailed advice, and help people apply science and technology to livestock farming.
Mr. Doan Minh Thuan, Chairman of Quang Truc Commune People's Committee said: "The program of donating breeding cows not only helps poor households stabilize their lives but also promotes the development of local agricultural economy."
"When each household develops good livestock farming and improves their living standards, the goal of sustainable poverty reduction will truly be achieved effectively," Mr. Thuan added.
