Help the poor stabilize their lives
Recently, Kien Thanh commune, Dak R'Lap district has been focusing on implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2025.
Despite facing many difficulties, with the focused leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels, poverty reduction work in the commune has achieved many positive results.
The number of poor and near-poor households is being reduced. People have more livelihoods, improve their lives, and develop their household economy.
Mr. Dao Cong Truong, in Kien Thanh commune, has been on the list of poor households for nearly 10 years. In the past, Mr. Truong did not have a stable job, mainly working as a hired hand.
In addition, Mr. Truong's family also has many children, so it is very difficult to live and develop the economy. In the face of this situation, the People's Committee of Kien Thanh commune has made a list and supported breeding cows for Mr. Truong's family.
Receiving the breeding cows more than 2 months ago, Mr. Truong took very good care of them, the cattle were healthy and fat...
According to Mr. Truong, his family's biggest wish is for the cow to quickly grow and reproduce so that the family can have more income to raise and educate their children.
Similarly, the family of Ms. Le Thi Kim, also in Kien Thanh commune, has been poor for nearly 10 years. Unlike Mr. Truong, Ms. Kim’s family has 9 people living in a dilapidated house. 5 of them are sick.
Mrs. Kim’s husband has been suffering from cancer for many years and has been on medication. Her grandson is also sick and has to go to the hospital every month for treatment.
"It has been more than a month since I received the breeding cow from the local government. My family sees this as a great hope to improve the economy. Having the cow, I take good care of it every day, hoping that it will soon breed so that the family can have more income and funds to treat the illnesses of my husband, children, grandchildren and stabilize our lives," Ms. Kim shared.
Efforts to overcome difficulties
Ms. Truong Thi Hanh - Vice Chairman of Kien Thanh Commune People's Committee shared: "The biggest difficulty in implementing the national target program in the area is that some poor households are no longer able to work, are sick, have serious illnesses and are unable to work, and have many dependents... so the locality does not have an effective poverty reduction model."
The target group still has many limitations in terms of qualifications, science and technology, and lacks experience in building production and business plans... so implementation encounters many difficulties.
On the other hand, many poor households, near-poor households, and ethnic minority households still rely on and rely on state support, and have not voluntarily strived to escape poverty.
To reduce the poverty rate, according to Ms. Hanh, in 2024, the locality provided 24 breeding cows to 24 households. In the near future, the authorities will continue to support 18 more breeding cows to deliver to poor and near-poor households in the area.
According to Ms. Hanh, in 2025, the Commune People's Committee will continue to widely disseminate to officials and people about documents regulating poverty reduction support policies.
Thereby, to ensure coverage of poverty reduction policies, no policies and beneficiaries are left out. In addition, we also improve the quality of the staff and civil servants working on poverty reduction.
According to the results of the investigation and review of poor households at the end of 2023, the entire Dak R'lap district has 468 poor households, accounting for 1.95%. The poverty reduction target for the entire district in 2024 is to reduce by 0.4% or more (equivalent to a reduction of about 100 households) to bring the district's poverty rate down to about 1.52%.
Poverty reduction is one of the important tasks in the process of bringing Dak R'lap district to the new rural finish line by 2025.
To achieve the set plan, Ms. Vo Thi Kieu Linh - Vice Chairman of Dak R'lap District People's Committee said: "The locality will focus on implementing national target programs to support livelihoods, housing and career transition for people.
Dak R'lap district strives to have one more commune meeting advanced new rural standards by the end of 2024, creating a foundation for the district to reach the new rural finish line.
