Dak Nong – The program to support and give breeding cows to people has been opening up opportunities to escape poverty for people in the Tuy Duc border area.

Livelihood support for the poor

Tuy Duc district is located in the border area of Dak Nong province. This place still has many difficulties due to the fragmented terrain, there are many remote areas...

In that context, for example, in Dak Buk So commune, in recent years, dozens of households in difficult circumstances have been given breeding cows to develop the economy. The people here have expressed their excitement and consider this the key to opening the door to escape poverty for themselves and their families.

Ms. Pham Thi Luyen, in Dak Buk So commune, shared: "My husband had complications of bone necrosis and had to undergo many surgeries. Now he can walk again, but his health is still weak and he cannot do heavy work like before."

"The economic burden weighs heavily on my shoulders. In addition to gardening for my family, I also take on any kind of work, from weeding, pruning branches, digging holes for plants... My wish is to earn extra income to support my family," Pham Thi Luyen added.

According to Ms. Luyen, when she was given the breeding cow, she was really happy. After that, the family members divided the work of taking good care of the breeding cows to multiply the herd, soon having more opportunities to escape difficulties, and giving the children the conditions to study fully.

According to Ms. Luyen, in addition to breeding animals, the family also received very active support from commune officials in training on livestock farming techniques.

Currently, Ms. Luyen's family is confident that they will take good care of the breeding cow and hope that the cow will soon give birth to a calf, gradually stabilizing their lives.

Similarly, Mr. Pham Thanh Long (Dak Buk So commune) could not hide his joy when he received support for breeding cows.

“Over the years, my family has always been in need and life has been difficult. So, when I received the breeding cow, I was very happy because this is a great gift for my family to improve their income and gradually overcome difficulties," Long shared.

According to Mr. Long, after receiving the cow, his family signed a commitment with the commune government not to slaughter or sell the cow but to take good care of it according to the instructions of the commune officials. His family's goal is to raise healthy cows, create a sustainable livelihood to escape poverty.

"I believe that with careful care, the cows will grow well and soon have more calves, and the family's income will gradually improve," said Mr. Long.

Supporting people to develop effective livestock farming

According to the People's Committee of Dak Buk So commune, from 2023 to present, 122 poor households in the commune have been supported with breeding cows.

Before distribution, the breeding cows will be health checked and quality assured to create sustainable livelihoods for the beneficiaries.

Mr. Ngo Van Thuong, Chairman of Dak Buk So Commune People's Committee, said that the national target program on hunger eradication and poverty reduction not only supports people materially but also opens up opportunities to change the lives of disadvantaged families in the locality.

Giving away breeding cows not only helps people have more income, but also creates a premise to escape poverty and gradually stabilize their lives.

“The commune government is constantly striving to improve the effectiveness of the program by regularly organizing health check-ups and monitoring the growth of the cattle, ensuring that the animals are healthy and develop well.

To support people as much as possible, the Commune People's Committee also coordinates with specialized agencies to organize training sessions on care and disease prevention skills, helping people feel secure in developing effective cattle and other livestock and poultry farming models," Mr. Thuong added.
