Lao Cai - The Red River bank erosion protection embankment, the section passing through Cam Duong ward with a total investment of 300 billion VND is entering the completion phase.

The Red River bank erosion prevention embankment project (phase 2) was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), invested by the Lao Cai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project is implemented on an area of about 14.9 hectares, in Cam Duong ward.

The project aims to combat erosion, strengthen flood prevention and control capabilities, thereby ensuring the safety of life and property of people living along the Red River bank, and at the same time protecting public works and administrative headquarters of Lao Cai city (old).

Records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on January 23 in the Lang Giang bridge base area (Cam Duong ward) show that dozens of workers and many machines and equipment are focusing on constructing the final items such as iron frames and embankment foundations.

After the propaganda and site clearance work was coordinated and implemented synchronously by the locality, the project progress has been accelerated, and the embankment line is currently basically completed.

Sharing with PV, Mr. Bui Duc Van (Cam Duong ward) said that in recent years, Lao Cai province has invested in many embankment projects along the Red River, making an important contribution to ensuring the safety of riverside residential areas.

People really hope that the investor and the construction unit will soon complete the project to stabilize life, especially during the rainy and flood season," Mr. Van said.

According to many local households, after the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in 2024, the investment in building erosion-resistant embankments becomes even more urgent. When completed, the project will help limit the risk of erosion, creating peace of mind for households living along the Red River bank.

It is known that the Red River section flowing through Lao Cai province is an area where landslides often occur, especially in low-lying communes and wards along the river.

The Red River bank erosion prevention embankment project is identified as a key project, of great significance in protecting people's lives and property from the increasingly complex erosion situation.

The embankment line is constructed by Corporation 319 - Ministry of National Defense, Dai An Construction Investment Joint Stock Company and Construction Joint Stock Company 568.

The project has a total length of 3,270 m, running along the right bank of the Red River, starting point from the gate to Ngoi Duong stream, ending point adjacent to Lang Giang bridge, involving 43 households who had to clear land.

The project started in February 2023, expected to be completed in December 2024. However, due to site clearance problems, the progress has been delayed.

Currently, the construction unit is deploying machinery and labor to construct the final sections of the embankment, soon putting the project into use. Thereby limiting landslides for the Red River area.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of the Lao Cai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board said that immediately after the site was handed over, the investor urged contractors to mobilize maximum manpower and take advantage of favorable weather to accelerate progress.

Up to now, the basic items have been completed, and the entire project is expected to be completed before the Lunar New Year.
