Regarding the controversial incident of a karaoke bill of more than 14 million VND in Can Tho, local authorities have stepped in to verify and clarify.
On the morning of February 26, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ninh Kieu District People's Committee - said that after the incident, the district assigned Cai Khe Ward People's Committee, the Economic Department, and the Cultural Department to inspect and verify the incident.
"Through inspection, the authorities discovered that the karaoke bar violated the law by not publicly listing the selling price of goods according to regulations and the group drew up a record of the violation. However, the units are still reviewing violations, such as conditional business lines, price violations... relying on the regulations of the Price Law to determine, said Mr. Anh.
According to Mr. Anh, the authorities determined that the karaoke bar had an administrative violation. This morning (February 26), the units are working, advising on solutions and will propose solutions.
Mr. Anh added that for this incident, tourists did not complain but only posted it on social networks. The invoice evidence is not in hand, only images via social networks. The Department of Culture has requested verification and review of the direction to resolve the incident.
As Lao Dong reported, previously, social networks spread a clip recording a controversy between a group of customers and the owner of T.C karaoke bar (Le Loi street, Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district) over a payment bill of more than 14 million VND.
The bill listed 157 cans of beer at more than 7 million VND (45,000 VND/can); 2 portions of grilled equalizer at 1.3 million VND; 4 fruits at 1.6 million VND, 1 nem chua at 250,000 VND; 44 towels at 440,000 VND, 1 stream water at 30,000 VND... The total bill was up to 14,605 million VND.
Too upset, the group of guests called the police to resolve the matter. A male customer in the clip said: "We have a small job but 14 million, I hope you will solve it quickly. The fruit has 3 plates, which is 4 plates. He asked her (the restaurant owner) to give him a refund. All dishes are expensive, everything is high".
Notably, the person who is said to be the owner of the restaurant also admitted: "I also said that the price at my house is a bit high...".
According to the leader of Cai Khe Ward People's Committee, the incident occurred in the early morning of January 22. The clip that went viral on social media has been removed by the poster.
The incident caused a stir in public opinion and received mixed opinions. Many people expressed their frustration at the high price of T.C karaoke bar. Many people think that such prices are normal for karaoke bars, and if you play, you have to accept them.
