Potential risk of accidents from the highway waste dump in Gia Lai

Gia Lai - The waste dump with thousands of cubic meters of soil located on the Tay Pleiku bypass road poses a risk of causing accidents and traffic unsafety.

Waste disposal site located next to National Highway

On September 1st, one day after the passenger car overturning accident on the Tay Pleiku bypass, Gia Lai, killing 4 people and injuring many others, functional agencies planted traffic signs and ropes to prevent vehicles from entering the uninspected and unexploited road.

According to Lao Dong reporters' records, the Western Pleiku bypass connects to National Highway 19, near Ham Rong intersection, where there is a high traffic density. Many trucks carrying goods and passenger cars are circulating bustlingly on this route to enter Ho Chi Minh City or return to the coastal provinces of the Central region.

For many months, local people have been surprised by the blocks of soil located along the Tay Pleiku bypass, the section intersecting with National Highway 19. According to the People's Committee of Hoi Phu ward, the "giant" high landfill is a waste dump from the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway project under construction.

Mr. Ro Cham Nan, residing in Ia Bang commune, Gia Lai, said: "To grow that mass of soil, many vehicles, dump trucks, and trucks enter and exit the Tay Pleiku bypass every day to dump waste. The prolonged rainy season causes mud and soil to overflow, with the risk of flowing into the bypass, posing a risk of traffic unsafety.

Near the location of the serious accident in the early morning of August 31st, there was also a very large landfill with thousands of cubic meters of soil along the road.

Mr. Vu Manh Dinh - Chairman of Hoi Phu Ward People's Committee - said: "In the near future, the ward proposes to the province to allow the sale of waste dumping yards to raise funds for other activities. At the same time, the waste dumping yard land area can be planned and attract investment projects.

Will clarify the responsibility of individuals and organizations violating

It is worth mentioning that the waste dump is located near the bypass road, at traffic junctions with high vehicle density, posing potential risks.

Regarding the passenger car overturning accident, Gia Lai Provincial Police informed that at the time of the incident, the area had heavy rain, dark sky, and thick fog. Mud and soil from both sides of the road spilled onto the road surface, creating a mud layer about 10cm thick, making the road surface slippery.

Functional agencies have mobilized personnel to clear the mud and soil piles on the road surface. The temporary detention of the passenger car driver is also to serve the investigation of signs of violations of road traffic safety regulations.

Gia Lai Provincial Police will also investigate and clarify other related contents and details for handling according to legal regulations.

Regarding the incident, Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has just signed Official Dispatch No. 61 of the Prime Minister on overcoming the consequences of the passenger car overturning in Gia Lai province.

The Prime Minister assessed that this is an incident with signs of causing particularly serious consequences, especially during the holidays 2. 9.
