On September 14, information from Van Phu Ward Police, Lao Cai province, the unit has just coordinated with the Tran Yen District Forest Protection Department to hand over a gold monkey to the Hoang Lien Tourism and Biodiversity Conservation Center for care, rescue and re-release to the natural environment.
Previously, on September 8, through grasping the situation at residential group No. 10, Van Phu ward, the police force discovered a monkey individual regularly going to the residential area to search for food.
Fearing that the monkey individual could destroy trees and crops and pose a potential danger to people, Mr. Hoang Dinh Hai's family (born in 1966) and some residents in the residential group organized to surround and catch the monkey individual.
Immediately after receiving the information, Van Phu Ward Police mobilized and guided Mr. Hai's family to hand over the monkey to functional agencies.
The police then coordinated with the People's Committee of Van Phu ward and the Tran Yen District Forest Protection Department to complete the procedures to hand over the wild animal individual to the Hoang Lien Tourism and Biodiversity Conservation Center.
Through comparison of identifying characteristics, functional agencies determined that this is a golden monkey (Macaca mulatta), belonging to the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals of Group IIB as prescribed.
The monkey weighs about 5kg, has stable health, is not injured and has good natural reflexes.
After completing the dossier, the monkey was taken to the Hoang Lien Center for Tourism and Conservation of Organisms for care, rescue and re-release to the natural environment suitable for the species' living conditions.
Van Phu Ward Police recommend that people not arbitrarily hunt, trap, buy, sell, transport or illegally use wild animals.
When wild animals are discovered appearing in residential areas, people need to notify functional agencies for guidance and handling according to regulations.
