Since 2009, Thua - Thien Hue province (now Hue city) has implemented the policy of relocating thousands of residents living on rivers in the locality to settle down to help people stabilize their lives. However, up to now, many households living in Lai Tan residential group, Duong No ward, Thuan Hoa district have reported that more than ten years have passed but their lives have not escaped poverty because they have not been granted land to build a house.
According to the reality of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, some households still live inside houses made of corrugated iron and planks. Some places are floating on the riverbank, some places are tilted on the vacant land on the side of the road.
Among them, there is the corrugated iron house on the river of Mr. Vo Van Meo's family. Mr. Meo is also a resident of the boat race from Con Hen area to Duong No ward. Mr. Meo said that his family currently have to live temporarily in a corrugated iron house floating on the water surface. Working for an income, children cannot go to school.
In 2019, nearly 1,000 households with nearly 6,000 people were resettled. Two years later, the Hue City government summarized and assessed "this is the most successful project in resettling thousands of people". However, by 2025, many households have reported that they have not been granted land for settlement and continue to struggle with the rough waves.
However, working with local authorities, the leaders said that all households that have relocated to the locality since 2009 have been allocated land by the state for living and there is no case of households lacking residential land.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Trai - Chairman of Duong No Ward People's Committee, in 2009, households with a large population were granted 2 to 3 plots of land. However, because there are households with too many people, some households have up to 30 people, so they cannot live together, so many people have separated and set up tents to live in, leading to the current situation.
Phu Mau commune alone (now merged into Duong No ward) received 337 households of migrants from the rivers. 262 plots of land and 170 apartments have been handed over to people. All households have been granted land and housing according to regulations" - Chairman of Duong No Ward People's Committee affirmed.
