From June 1 to June 5, the Ha Long Bay - Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board coordinated with the authorities of Hong Gai and Ha Long wards and functional forces to deploy a peak period of propaganda and handling of fishing boats anchored in violation of regulations along the coast of Ha Long Bay.
Participating forces include the Traffic Police Department of Quang Ninh Provincial Police, Hon Gai Port Border Guard Station, Sub-Department of Sea, Islands and Fisheries, and Quang Ninh Fisheries Resources Surveillance.
On the first day of deployment, through actual review, functional agencies recorded about 500 fishing boats and ships anchored in the wrong positions in many areas such as Hang Dinh, Bien Mo, and Gieng Coi islands.
According to functional agencies, spontaneous anchoring in coastal areas encroaches on routes, potentially poses a risk of waterway traffic unsafety, affecting the landscape, environment and tourism image of the world natural heritage Ha Long Bay.
During the implementation process, functional forces directly notify and request vehicle owners to comply with regulations on anchoring and ensuring waterway traffic safety.
However, during the implementation process, some cases have not carried out the relocation because the vehicle owner is absent or the ship is stranded when the tide is low.
According to assessments by functional units, as of June 3, the awareness and compliance of a part of vehicle owners have had positive changes. Compared to the first day of deployment, the number of vehicles voluntarily not mooring in prohibited areas has increased, estimated at about 40%.
After leaving the spontaneous anchorage points, ships and boats will move to the anchorage points as prescribed by the locality.
The campaign aims to restore order in the operation of boat anchoring, ensure waterway traffic safety, and protect the environment and landscape of Ha Long Bay, a world natural heritage site.
