According to Lao Cai Provincial Police, at about 7:15 pm on February 21, in the area of Thac Ba Lake in Lang Can village, Bao Ai commune, Lao Cai province, a waterway traffic accident occurred between a stone-carrying ship and a passenger ship, leaving 6 people missing.
Initial inspection results showed that both vehicle drivers had train driving licenses as prescribed, and the vehicle was still valid for registration. Through quick inspection, the two train drivers had no alcohol concentration in their breath and were negative for drugs.
According to initial information, the passenger ship with license plate YB0876H was driven by Trieu Van Noi (born in 1995, residing in Cam Nhan commune, Lao Cai province), with 23 people on board (including the driver), moving from Yen Binh commune to Cam Nhan commune.
When arriving at the Lang Can village area, a collision occurred with a stone-carrying ship with license plate YB0919 driven by Nguyen Van Tham (born in 1984, residing in Cam Nhan commune), traveling from Luc Yen commune to Yen Binh commune. After the collision, the passenger ship sank.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Police, Army and forces were present at the scene, coordinating with local authorities and people with vehicles on the lake to organize rescue and relief.
By the morning of February 22, functional forces had safely rescued 17 people, found 1 victim dead out of 6 missing people.
By late afternoon on February 22, functional forces found the remaining 5 bodies in the traffic accident that left 6 people missing on Thac Ba Lake.
Previously, at 7:15 pm on February 21, two ships with registration numbers YB0876H and YB0919 collided on Thac Ba Lake. Ship YB0876H carrying 23 people moved in the direction of Yen Binh - Cam Nhan; ship YB0919 carrying 515 tons of stone went in the opposite direction.
As a result, ship YB0876H sank, 6 people went missing, and 17 people were rescued.
All passengers in the train capsizing were brothers and relatives in Ngoi Song village, Cam Nhan commune.
