On the afternoon of February 22, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of the Ministry of Public Security said that during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday of Binh Ngo, there were 381 traffic accidents (TNGT) nationwide, killing 230 people and injuring 274 people.
Compared to the 9-day Tet holiday of At Ty 2025, a decrease of 154 cases (-28.79%), a decrease of 73 deaths (-23.2%), and a decrease of 118 injuries (-30.10%).
In which, road accidents occurred 378 cases, killing 224 people, injuring 274 people. Compared to the 9 days of Tet holiday in 2025, a decrease of 152 cases (-28.68%), a decrease of 76 deaths (-25.33%), a decrease of 117 injuries (-29.92%);
Railway accidents occurred 1 time, killing 1 person. Compared to the 9 days of Tet holiday in 2025, there was a decrease of 2 cases, a decrease of 1 death, and a decrease of 1 injury.
On waterways, there were 2 cases, killing 5 people and 5 missing. Compared to the 9 days of Tet holiday in 2025, an increase of 4 deaths, an increase of 5 missing people, the number of cases and the number of injured people did not increase or decrease.
In which, 1 particularly serious waterway traffic accident occurred, killing 4 people (on the Gianh River, the section flowing through Tuyen Binh and Tuyen Hoa communes, Quang Tri province); 1 collision on Thac Ba Lake (Lao Cai) left 6 people missing (the body of 1 person has been found).
According to representatives of the Traffic Police Department, the sharp reduction in traffic accidents during the Tet holidays is effective from the drastic direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and the synchronous involvement of functional forces in localities.
During the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday of Binh Ngo 2026, traffic police forces in localities discovered and handled 76,374 cases of traffic safety violations, revoked the right to use driver's licenses (GPLX), professional certificates 2,473 cases, 16,095 GPLX were deducted points; temporarily seized 747 cars, 26,742 motorbikes, 1,0062 other vehicles.
Regarding handling violations of alcohol concentration, functional forces discovered and handled 26,337 cases (accounting for 34.4% of the total number of violations of traffic order and safety); compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year At Ty 2025, an increase of 9,188 cases (+53.5%).
Regarding handling speeding vehicles, the traffic police force discovered and handled 15,728 cases (accounting for 20.5% of the total number of violations of traffic order and safety), compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year At Ty 2025, an increase of 2,432 cases (+18.3%).
Functional forces discovered and handled 34 cases of drivers testing positive for drugs (accounting for 0.04% of the total number of violations of traffic safety and order), compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year At Ty 2025, a decrease of 50 cases.
Representatives of the Traffic Police Department also said that during the 9-day Tet holiday, the total traffic volume from local roads to expressways managed by the Department was 5,265,082 trips (compared to the same period in 2025, an increase of 749,598 trips); the total traffic volume from expressways to local roads was 5,378,710 trips (compared to the same period in 2025, an increase of 777,433 trips); on average, there were 585,009 trips of vehicles entering the expressway per day (an increase of 83,289 trips = 16.6%), and 597,634 trips of vehicles exiting the expressway (an increase of 86,381 trips, 16.9%).
In the coming time, the traffic police force will continue to maintain peak patrol and control, strictly handle violations to ensure traffic order and safety, contributing to protecting the lives and property of the people during Tet and the early spring festival season.

Nghi Son - Dien Chau - Bai Vot - Ham Nghi - Bung - Vung Ang - Cam Lo: Number of entrances to the expressway increased by 76,715 (+38.71%), exits to the expressway increased by 76,722 (+38.71%).
Regarding traffic congestion, no serious prolonged traffic congestion occurred although the traffic volume increased sharply during the first 2 days, the last 2 days of Tet holiday and the 2nd day, morning of the 3rd day of Tet because people from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City returned to localities for Tet holiday, and from localities returned to the city.
