Many bidding packages at Long Thanh airport achieved and exceeded schedule
According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the construction package 4.6 of the Long Thanh airport runway phase 1 is expected to be 3 months ahead of schedule. The runway is expected to be completed and put into technical operation before April 30, 2025.
For the 5.10 package of the passenger terminal construction, the contractors are currently fabricating and assembling the steel roof structure according to the plan and schedule in the contract; construction is expected to be completed by April 2025. Then, in June 2025, a trial operation will be conducted to officially open Long Thanh airport phase 1 on September 2, 2026.
According to ACV, a large construction site has been established on the project site with the participation of hundreds of construction teams with more than 6,000 personnel and 2,700 construction equipment. The packages under construction at the site have been inspected, supervised and accepted according to the project's technical standards, ensuring the required quality and progress.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet - Deputy General Director in charge - Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) said: The investor is actively coordinating with contractors to deploy and maintain progress to put Long Thanh airport phase 1 into operation by September 2, 2026. Long Thanh airport is a driving force project for the whole Southern region and the whole country. ACV and Dong Nai province want to deploy runway number 3 soon.
Proposal to build runway number 3
ACV proposed to invest in the construction of an additional runway in phase 1 of the Long Thanh airport project (adjusting the construction phase of runway number 3 from phase 3 to phase 1, with an estimated total investment of VND 3,455 billion (not exceeding the total investment of component project 3 currently being implemented by ACV), implemented with ACV's legal capital.
Currently, ACV has arranged enough financial resources, human resources, and infrastructure to be ready to immediately deploy runway No. 3 after the National Assembly approves the investment policy. ACV plans to design and approve the project from the first quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2025, with a construction period of 12 months (expected from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the end of the third quarter of 2026), test run, and complete procedures for putting it into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.
ACV also proposed adjusting the implementation time of Phase 1 of the Long Thanh airport project to 2026.
Mr. Vo Van Phi - Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee - said that according to the planning, there are already runways, instead of implementing in the later phase, if this phase has favorable factors, it should be implemented immediately. Currently, the land is available, the capital, according to ACV, can also be balanced. Therefore, adjusting to build more runways at this time is reasonable.
In addition to the proposal to adjust Resolution 94/2015/QH13 dated June 25, 2015 of the National Assembly, ACV also said that after putting into operation, 80% of international passengers will travel to and from Long Thanh airport, most of whom will want to go to Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway is one of the important factors for Long Thanh airport to be put into operation and operate effectively.
ACV proposed that the Government pay attention to directing the acceleration of the project to expand the highway connecting Long Thanh airport with Ho Chi Minh City to ensure the project's effectiveness when put into operation.
On November 13, the adjustment of the investment policy for the Long Thanh International Airport Project in Resolution No. 94/2015/QH13 of the National Assembly was discussed at the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly.
According to ACV, the 6.12 package for the construction of traffic routes No. 1 and No. 2 connecting Long Thanh airport has so far achieved an actual construction volume value of about VND 1,321 billion, equivalent to 55.3% of the contract value. Regarding the general progress, the construction of route No. 1 will be completed in November 2025; the construction of the intersection of route No. 1 and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway will be completed in August 2025; the construction of the intersection of route No. 2 and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway will be completed in October 2025; the project will be completed and handed over for use in December 2025.
