Va Thang village (Muong Khuong commune) is located in the basin area, with steep terrain, and has often experienced rolling rocks for many years.
According to local people, almost every year there are a few cases of rocks rolling down from the mountainside, directly threatening houses and living areas. There are rocks that only stop a few meters from people's homes, making everyone live in fear.
Therefore, local people hope that there will be a safe resettlement place to soon stabilize their lives.

That wish has now come true when in 2023, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee approved a project to arrange and relocate residents out of the landslide and rolling rock-residing area for Ba Thang village, with a total investment of 20 billion VND.
According to the plan, the whole village has 53 households, in 2021 12 households were relocated, and there are currently 41 households still living in the danger zone. The project has been implemented since the end of 2023, allocating a land fund of nearly 3 hectares, about 3 km from the old location to build a resettlement area.
Mr. Thao Chinh Diu (a resident of Muong Khuong commune) expressed: "A few dozen households here are just waiting for the project to be completed to move to new residences. Everyone hopes to settle down soon. Road rollers have not caused any human casualties, but they are enough to make us afraid every day".

Through investigation, the project is invested by the Muong Khuong Construction Investment Project Management Board. The construction unit is the Joint Venture of Son Dong Private Construction Enterprise - Lao Cai Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company.
The project has been implemented since November 2023, expected to be completed by the end of 2025 with the goal of not only building a safe resettlement area, but also synchronizing transportation, electricity, water infrastructure, ensuring a stable and long-term life for the people.

On September 16, according to Lao Dong, at the construction site, workers are currently implementing the construction of drainage ditches and traffic infrastructure to hand over the project soon.
When the project is completed, households in the village will be relocated out of the danger zone, ending many years of living in insecurity.
Mr. Bui Si Ngoc - Director of the Muong Khuong Construction Investment Project Management Board said: "Currently, the population arrangement project in Va Thang village has completed more than 90% of the workload. We are urging contractors to mobilize human resources and machinery to speed up the progress, striving to hand over the project for use by December 31, 2025".

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hung - Chairman of Muong Khuong Commune People's Committee - said: "The project is implemented according to the people's wishes. Up to now, the construction unit is carrying out the remaining items, it is expected that by the end of 2025, all infrastructure will be completed for people to move to new residences".
People in Va Thang village now look forward to the project being completed soon every day.
They believe that by the end of 2025, when they move to their new homes, people will be able to feel secure in " settling down and making a living", building a more prosperous and sustainable life on a safe land.
This is also a specific step for Lao Cai province in implementing social security policies, bringing people out of disaster areas, contributing to local socio-economic development.
