Lai Chau has just announced an emergency situation for natural disasters at 4 locations on National Highway 279, National Highway 4H and DT. 133 due to the impact of heavy rain and floods.
On August 12, according to PV's investigation, Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee has just announced an emergency situation for natural disasters at 4 locations in Muong Kim, Tan Uyen and Muong Te communes.
Locations include Km171+200 and Km189+200 on National Highway 279; Km11+200 on Provincial Road 133 and Km247+150 on National Highway 4H.
According to the decision, heavy rains from July 15 to August 6 caused landslides, damage to traffic infrastructure, localized congestion and potential safety risks for people and vehicles.
At Km171+200 National Highway 279, the positive taluy landslide is about 30m wide, soil and rocks have spilled onto the roadbed and surface. On the taluy slope, many extended cracks have appeared, forming a large sliding arc, with the risk of continuing to landslide onto the road when it rains.
At Km189+200, the positive taluy landslide is about 50m wide. Many large cracks and a wide sliding arc develop, posing a risk of landslides with large volumes, causing traffic disruption.
Meanwhile, at Km11+200 DT. 133, soil and rocks from the positive taluy regularly landslide onto the roadbed and surface.
At Km247+150 National Highway 4H, the sliding arc extends about 200m; the roadbed and surface are protruding and sinking over a length of about 130m, the negative slope landslides at 2 locations and causing the guardrail footage to fall about 25m.
Faced with the risk of continued landslides, Lai Chau province requested units to urgently dig and remove soil and rocks to temporarily clear traffic; set up barriers, put up warning signs and organize duty shifts and traffic guidance.
The Department of Construction is assigned to take the lead in assessing the safety level of the project and proposing handling solutions.
People's Committees of Muong Kim, Tan Uyen, Muong Te communes coordinate to warn people, monitor developments and support responses when necessary.
