The Ministry of Construction announced an emergency situation of natural disaster in many sections of National Highway 279 and National Highway 32 after a prolonged heavy rain.

The Ministry of Construction has just decided to announce an emergency situation for natural disasters to overcome damage to traffic infrastructure at locations: Km128+900 (Nam Con bridge), Km134+000, Km143+350, Km145+060 - Km145+750, Km148+400, Km149+700 (White bridge), Km152+965 - Km152+995 on National Highway 279 through Lao Cai province;

Km155+200, Km156+300 - Km156+400, Km157+780, Km158+000 - Km158+400, Km158+500, Km158+900 - Km159+200, Km159+500, Km160+200, Km160+590 on National Highway 279 through Lai Chau province;

Km355+750 on National Highway 32 through Lai Chau province (belonging to the Northern mountainous provinces traffic connection project).

According to the decision, the above locations were damaged by heavy rain from July 15 to 17, 2026, posing a potential risk of directly affecting the safety of people and vehicles participating in traffic.

According to the decision, relevant agencies and units will deploy disaster response and recovery activities according to the provisions of Circular No. 40/2024/TT-BGTVT (now the Ministry of Construction) on disaster prevention, control and recovery in the field of roads.

The Ministry of Construction assigned the Economic - Construction Investment Management Department to review and specifically determine the level of damage to the works, propose repair solutions and issue an Emergency Construction Order to overcome the consequences of natural disasters; and at the same time coordinate with the Planning - Finance Department to advise on allocating capital sources to implement according to regulations.

After completing the emergency project, the Economic - Construction Investment Management Department is responsible for reporting to the Ministry of Construction to consider announcing the termination of the natural disaster emergency situation.

Project Management Board 2 is responsible to the Minister of Construction and before the law for the content of reporting damage and damage to traffic infrastructure at the above locations.

Also according to the content of the Decision, the Department of Transport and Traffic Safety is responsible for urging and directing agencies and units to implement disaster recovery work for the road traffic infrastructure system.
