Lao Cai - On the last day of the year, the temperature dropped below -1 degree Celsius, causing frost to appear on Fansipan peak (Sa Pa).

According to information from the Management Board of Sun World Fansipan Legend Tourist Area, at around 5:00 a.m. on December 31, the temperature at the top of Fansipan was recorded at -1 degree Celsius, causing water vapor to condense into a layer of ice covering the wooden floor where the Fansipan symbol is located and the trees and grass on the top of the mountain.

It is known that due to the influence of the continental cold high pressure from the North, on the morning of December 31, the temperature in areas in the province dropped sharply, in some places from 7 - 10 degrees Celsius, the weather was very cold.

In particular, in the mountainous area of Sa Pa town, the temperature drops below 5 degrees Celsius; Fansipan peak below 0 degrees Celsius.

It is forecasted that in the first days of 2025, the temperature on Fansipan peak will continue to be low, and frost may appear in the morning. This is an opportunity for tourists to experience and admire the white frost on Fansipan peak.

Previously, on November 23 and December 23, the temperature in Sa Pa town dropped sharply, causing frost to appear twice on Fansipan peak.

Weather experts explain that ice appeared on Fansipan peak because the sky was clear and the temperature was low. Water vapor and dew on the surface will turn into ice when exposed to low temperatures.

Located at an altitude of 3,143 m, Fansipan peak often starts to get cold from November to February of the following year, accompanied by many long cold spells, temperatures even dropping below 0 degrees Celsius and frost appearing. This is considered one of the most special and attractive experiences for tourists when coming to Sapa in winter.
