On October 19, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued an urgent directive document, requiring relevant departments, branches, units and localities to immediately deploy measures to ensure the safety of the people.
This is the latest information related to landslides in the planning area for resettlement of residents in the particularly difficult area of Dung K'No 5 village (Dam Rong 4 commune, Lam Dong province),
Accordingly, the Department of Construction was assigned to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Finance, the No. 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board, the Lac Duong Project Management Board and the People's Committee of Dam Rong 4 commune to inspect and assess the landslide situation in the resettlement area, propose a handling plan and report to the Provincial People's Committee before October 30.
The People's Committee of Dam Rong 4 commune is responsible for closely monitoring the scene, installing warning signs of danger, fences and arranging forces to be on duty 24/7, especially during heavy rain.
Local authorities absolutely do not allow people to travel or reside in areas at high risk of landslides.
For 15 households directly affected, the Provincial People's Committee requested urgent evacuation to safe shelters such as community centers, medical facilities or locations arranged by investors.
Relevant units must ensure essential living conditions for people during the relocation period. In case people do not comply, the authorities will apply enforcement measures to ensure the safety of their lives.
There are about 48 households at risk of being affected in the area. The province directs urgent assessment and development of plans and strategies to ensure safety; at the same time, mobilizes and guides people to evacuate from areas at risk of landslides.
On the investor's side, the Construction Investment Project Management Board No. 1 and the Lac Duong Project Management Board are required to coordinate with the Department of Construction, the People's Committee of Dam Rong 4 commune and related units to determine the cause, develop a plan to overcome the landslide incident, and complete before October 25.
These two units also have to arrange technical forces to monitor 24/7 at the scene, put up warning signs, fence off dangerous areas and coordinate with localities to ensure temporary accommodation and essential living conditions for relocated households.
The project to arrange residents in the extremely disadvantaged area of Dung K'No 5 village has been implemented since 2017, expected to be completed in 2025. According to the People's Committee of Dam Rong 4 commune, by June 30, the locality had granted 73 resettlement plots to 73 households, of which 63 households had built houses and moved in.
However, many points in the area are currently experiencing serious landslides, directly affecting 15 households and threatening about 48 other households.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported the situation of nearly 100 households in Dung K'No 5 village facing danger due to landslides and increasingly complex natural disasters.
