On the morning of August 19, at Hanoi Railway Station, Vietnam Railway Corporation held a launching ceremony for a 5-door expressway and a train ticket control system using biometric technology.

These are 2 projects in a list of 250 projects and works that were started and inaugurated simultaneously across the country to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

From August 19, 2025, the Railway Corporation officially put into operation the ticket control system using biometric technology through citizen identification authentication at Hanoi Railway Station. This is a product concretizing the policy of promoting the application of science and technology, digital transformation of the railway industry, thoroughly implementing in the spirit of Resolution 57 of the Central Committee and the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Construction.

In the first phase, the system is deployed in the form of authenticating passenger information using a chip-embedded Citizen Identification Card (CCCD). This is a plan to exploit the national population database, to ensure accuracy, security and high legality. In the coming time, the system will be integrated with the VNeID application, allowing passengers to check tickets using electronic identification data, without having to carry their ID card, thereby streamlining procedures, improving the experience and convenience for passengers.

To deploy this system, from May 2025, the Corporation has directed relevant units to conduct surveys of technical infrastructure, assess network lines, power sources and technical equipment installation plans. In early August, a biometric identification system was installed in the lobby of Hanoi Railway Station, synchronously connected with the electronic ticket sales system and the national CCCD database.

From August 1 to August 10, the system will be tested in parallel with the traditional ticket checking method. The testing phase has helped refine the recognition software, improving accuracy and stability.

Initial results show:

Ticket checking speed: An average of only 3-5 seconds/passenger, about 50% faster than scanning the QR code.

Success rate of identification: Over 98%.

Passenger satisfaction level: 92% of the survey people evaluate conveniently or very convenient.

Operating efficiency: Significantly reduces pressure on ticket checking staff, especially during rush hour.

Integrating ticket control using biometric technology not only brings convenience, safety and transparency to passengers, but also helps the railway industry improve management efficiency, improve service capacity and create a premise for other modernization services in the future. When completing the integration with VNeID, the real estate industry will move towards a completely electronic, synchronous ticket control model nationwide.

On the same morning, the Corporation and its partners also held the launching ceremony of "The Hanoi train".

Inspired by the beauty of the ancient Thang Long citadel, the train cars are named after 5 gates including: O Cau Den, O Quan Chuong, O Cau Giay, O Cho Dua and O Dong Mac - names that evoke the thousand-year-old history of the wonderful land and heritage of the Red River Delta.

The train convoy includes 5 2-storey carriages and 2 cars reserved for tourists to check-in. The luxury cars are designed according to a separate theme and have from 40 to 60 seats/carriage. The glass doors on the carriages are all extended to the maximum so that passengers can comfortably sit and admire the scenery along the road.

Throughout the journey, visitors will enjoy many traditional cultural and artistic forms such as: folk songs, ca tru, Cheo singing, Xam singing...

The "Hanoi 5 Cua O" train convoy is not only a new tourism product, demonstrating efforts to innovate and improve service quality, but also the passion of Vietnam Railway Corporation and its partners in combining the preservation of traditional values with innovation, bringing railways back to urban life in a close and lively way, contributing to promoting and developing tourism, spreading the good traditional cultural values of the nation.

It is expected that the 5-door train will be put into operation in September 2025.
