At the conference, delegates watched a report introducing the planning of Lao Cai province for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050.
Thanks to its strategic location in the Northwest region, Lao Cai has many advantages in developing industry and socio-economic infrastructure, especially the transportation system, mineral deep processing projects, and services. Tourist destinations such as Sa Pa, Bac Ha, Mu Cang Chai, and Lao Cai ward are increasingly attracting tourists.
However, the locality still faces many difficulties such as lack of raw materials for industrial production, high input costs; the impact of climate change, natural disasters, and complicated epidemics; limited investment capital; unsynchronized infrastructure, especially highway connections with industrial, commercial, and tourism centers...
In 2025, Lao Cai province currently has 12,630 enterprises operating in the area, with a total registered capital of over 168,000 billion VND (of which, there are about 60 FDI enterprises), with the total budget contribution of enterprises operating in the province reaching 6,995 billion VND.
At the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Hanh Phuc announced the Decision approving the adjustment of the Lao Cai Provincial Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
According to the Decision, Lao Cai aims to become a growth pole, a trade connection center between Vietnam, ASEAN and the Southwest China region.
The province focuses on developing the driving axis along the Red River, forming two growth poles North - South, creating spillover for three economic regions (East, West and Central).
Along with that, urban areas along the railway line are being developed; economic structure is shifting positively; socio-economic infrastructure is gradually synchronized and modern, national defense and security are maintained, people's lives are improved, striving to achieve a growth target of about 11%/year.
The decision approving the adjustment of the Lao Cai Provincial Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, has also clearly defined the specific development viewpoints and goals of each stage; key and breakthrough tasks during the planning period; development directions for important industries...
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, said that in the context of new development and implementation of the 2-level local government model, provincial planning is adjusted according to comprehensive and long-term thinking and approach; fully reflecting the potential, advantages and development orientations of the province in the coming period.
At the same time, clearly identify the driving axes, growth poles, economic regions and priority sectors. This is an important foundation for organizing development space, mobilizing and effectively allocating resources, attracting strategic investors, implementing driving projects and promoting regional linkages.
The Provincial People's Committee is committed to organizing the synchronous and effective implementation of the Plan; publicizing and making information transparent; creating the most favorable conditions for businesses and investors to access opportunities and accompany the province in the development process," Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh affirmed.
The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee also highly appreciated the role and contribution of the business community in budget revenue collection in 2025 and fulfilling its responsibilities in social security work.
In 2026 and the following years, with the determination to strive to achieve the growth target of over 10% and continue to improve the quality of development sustainably, Lao Cai province identifies focusing on implementing key task groups, which are administrative reform; strategic infrastructure; investment attraction.
