In recent days, the Hanoi Department of Construction has urgently installed a hard median strip system (associated steel fences) on two key routes, Vo Chi Cong and Pham Van Dong.
The installation of a median strip to serve the lane division work is about to be implemented in early July 2025.
According to the design plan, the outer lanes, close to the median strip, will be lanes reserved for cars, the inner lanes will be mixed lanes.
Although the traffic diversion plan has not been officially announced, in recent days, the above change has received the attention of the people.
Sharing in Lao Dong newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy (Tay Ho, Hanoi) said that during rush hour on Friday (September 20), the traffic congestion extended from the foot of Nhat Tan bridge to the intersection of Vo Chi Cong - Nguyen Hoang Ton road.
"It took me and many other drivers more than half an hour to get out of the traffic jam," said Mr. Huy.
Commenting on the cause, Mr. Huy said that it could be due to the installation of a median strip causing people to "confficut" during traffic.
Notably, on the evening of June 21, many videos shared on social networks showed a situation where a motorbike crashed into a newly installed median strip (the first section of the median strip) on both streets, Vo Chi Cong and Pham Van Dong.
Accordingly, an incident was recorded at around 9:37 p.m. on June 21. There is currently rain in Hanoi.
Images from the dashcam of the car going behind show a motorbike driver moving in the direction of Buoi - Vo Chi Cong crashed into a reflective box warning of the median strip (the beginning of Vo Chi Cong Street, towards Nhat Tan Bridge). Fortunately, the incident did not cause any injuries.
Another incident occurred in the evening of the same day on Pham Van Dong Street ( directions of movement unknown). A motorbike driver crashed into a reflective warning strip, causing the tieu tieu coil to be thrown onto the road. The motorcyclist also fell onto the road.

Under Facebook posts, many people expressed concern about this situation.
"There will be many accidents at this fence. Especially at night when it rains, lighting, speeding according to the habit of the road without obstacles", account L.T.L shared.
Some accounts say that when driving on the road, you need to pay attention to the front to avoid obstacles, especially at night or in rain, with limited visibility.

In fact, when piloting the installation of a separate median strip for motorbikes and cars on Nguyen Trai Street (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) in August 2022, many similar collisions have occurred, including cars and motorbikes.
After that, the authorities had to be on duty to direct traffic and regulate traffic.
Regarding the installation of a median strip on Vo Chi Cong and Pham Van Dong streets, sharing with Lao Dong newspaper reporters, Mr. Nguyen Chien Thang (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) assessed that through observation, he saw that the steel fence was quite low.
"At night, we don't know how to reflect, whether it is easy to observe. I also hope that the authorities will equip enough warning signs from a distance so that passersby can understand them," Mr. Thang shared.
Currently, the Hanoi Department of Construction has not yet provided official information about the congestion that occurred during the installation of the median strip.
