People reported that many sidewalks with barricades for pedestrians and wheelchairs for people with disabilities on Ho Tung Mau Street (Mai Dich Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi) have recently been occupied as a place to sell goods, affecting pedestrians and urban aesthetics.
On the evening of April 14, Lao Dong newspaper reporters recorded that the sidewalk outside the cultural and artistic area (section 128 Ho Tung Mau street) was surrounded by barrier, with a sign "entrance for pedestrians and wheelchairs for people with disabilities". However, inside, people are setting up tables and chairs to serve drinking water business.
At the time of the PV recorded, very crowded sitting here, the owner also equipped the speaker to open music, the LED system running around the sitting area. According to the research, this is a guest of a pub about 20m away. When there is a need to sit and drink water, the shop will make drinks and guide guests to sit in the way for pedestrians.
Because the sidewalk was occupied, the entrance was jammed with passenger seats, many pedestrians had to move on the road, posing a potential risk to traffic safety.
"It was no different from a business, there were many customers, there was still a small walk in the middle, but I was afraid to go in because many people were sitting and drinking water, so I had to walk on the road. This situation has been going on for a long time, I hope the authorities will soon take measures to handle it and return the way to pedestrians", said Ms. My Lan (character's name has been changed) - a student at the University of Commerce.
Not only in this area, right opposite (in front of the gate of the University of Commerce), the pedestrian path is also occupied by many street vendors, setting up tables and chairs for customers to sit.
According to people in the above area, the shops often operate in the evening, but do not sell during the day. People have repeatedly reported to the iHanoi application (an application that helps people interact online with authorities at all levels in Hanoi), but violations still recur.
According to the reporter's records on the morning of April 15, the location where people were occupying to sell goods last night (May 14) was still littered with straws, eating paper, plastic cups... thrown under the trees.

Regarding the above situation, on April 15, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong newspaper, the leader of Mai Dich ward police said that the unit had received feedback from the people and had coordinated with other forces to punish a violation.
"In case the sidewalk occupation continues to recur, the unit will consult with the People's Committee of Mai Dich Ward to have a thorough handling plan in the coming days and respond to the Newspaper", the leader of Mai Dich Ward Police informed.
