On September 20, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang - Head of the Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai City - confirmed that he had just transferred the file to the police agency to investigate and clarify the case of a pig farm of 2,350 pigs in Tan An commune, Dong Nai City contaminated with banned substances.
Previously, after receiving the report, the Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai City established an inspection team to verify at a pig farm in Tan An commune with 2,350 pigs; at the same time, taking urine samples from pigs to quickly test Salbutamol, belonging to the Beta-agonist group. The rapid test results showed that the sample was positive for Salbutamol.
After that, the sample was sent for quantitative testing to accurately determine the content. The results determined that the pig herd was positive for Salbutamol at high concentrations.
Also according to Mr. Giang, this herd of pigs will continue to be raised, monitored, and not destroyed.
Mr. Giang explained: According to Decree 211/2026/ND/CP (effective from August 5, 2026), after transferring the file to the investigating agency, if there are no signs of criminal offense, the functional agency will proceed to impose administrative penalties, until the pig test results are negative and it is put on the market. According to the previous decree, destruction must be carried out when exceeding the permissible limit.
In another development, on September 3, the Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai City transferred the case file of discovering more than 3,900 pigs contaminated with banned substances to the Investigation Police Agency of Ho Chi Minh City Police for investigation and clarification.
Accordingly, the above-mentioned pigs contaminated with banned substances belong to 6 pig farms in Tri An ward, Dau Giay ward, Hung Thinh commune and Bau Ham commune of Dong Nai City.
These pigs were then disposed of according to regulations.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City, individuals do not register for livestock farming declarations, but purchase pigs from 90 to 100 kg and then use banned substances in livestock farming (Beta-agonist group) mixed with pellets to feed pigs to help pigs gain weight quickly and sell for profit.
Considering that the case shows signs of the crime of violating food safety regulations and the dangerous nature of the group of subjects using banned substances in animal husbandry (Beta-agonist group) to feed pigs to gain rapid weight for profit, causing food insecurity and affecting consumer health; the Department of Agriculture and Environment transferred the above file to the Police Agency for handling according to legal regulations.
