Still 1,000 pigs contaminated with banned substances in Dong Nai, farm owner refuses to destroy them

Dong Nai - The owner of a farm of more than 1,000 pigs contaminated with banned substances in Lo 25 neighborhood, Dau Giay ward, has not yet voluntarily destroyed them.

On August 25th, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Dong Nai City Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries said that so far the unit has coordinated with functional agencies to destroy nearly 3,000 pigs with positive for banned substances and infected with African swine fever.

However, according to a representative of the Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai city, to date, there are still pig farm owners N.H. T. T (Lo 25 neighborhood, Dau Giay ward) using banned substances to raise 1,067 pigs (weighing from 120 to 130kg/pig) with quantitative results exceeding the permissible limit with Salbutamol belonging to the Beta-agonist group, but have not voluntarily destroyed it.

Therefore, functional agencies must comply with the regulations. Specifically, it is necessary to wait for the investigating police agency and the procuracy to request the destruction of exhibits; or switch to administrative sanctions before proceeding with destruction.

Currently, the Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai city is coordinating with the People's Committee of Dau Giay ward to monitor the number of pigs of the above farming household, if a situation of pig death occurs, functional agencies will take them for destruction according to regulations.

Previously, on August 11, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City said that it was completing the dossiers to transfer to the Investigation Police Agency, considering that the case showed signs of violating food safety regulations and the dangerous nature of the group of subjects using banned substances in animal husbandry (Beta-agonist group) to feed pigs to gain rapid weight for profit, causing food insecurity and affecting consumer health.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City, individuals who do not register to declare livestock breeding, purchase pigs from 90 to 100 kg and then use banned substances in livestock breeding (Beta-agonist group) mixed with pellets to feed pigs to help pigs gain weight quickly and sell for profit.
