The pilot had to parachute.
Regarding the incident of the Yak-130 training aircraft having an accident and crashing in Tay Son district, on the night of November 6, Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army said that on November 7, forces organized a search for the location of the crashed aircraft and conducted black box decoding to find the cause of the accident.
"Decoding the black box to find out why the plane's right landing gear did not deploy, even though the front and left landing gears did," Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son said, adding that this was an extremely complicated and unpredictable case.
According to Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, in the instructions, if the landing gear does not deploy, it is still possible to land on the plane's belly. But if one of the two left or right landing gears does not deploy, the pilot must definitely parachute.
After receiving the order, the two pilots flew the plane to a mountainous area 20km from Phu Cat airport to parachute, but the crash site was nearly 30km away.
"I am very worried and feel sorry for you guys. In such rainy and windy conditions, you guys overcame it with your own determination, bravery and solidarity of the entire force, bringing you guys back safely," said Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son.
According to Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, the Yak-130 aircraft is designed for two pilots to sit in the front and back cabins. When the parachute is deployed in an emergency situation, the person sitting in the back will fly first. The projectile increases the gravity of the ejection seat by 20 times, affecting the health of the pilots. Therefore, after being brought to Military Hospital 13 - Military Region 5, the pilots will undergo medical examination.
Burst into tears seeing teammates
Sharing with the press on the night of November 6, Mr. Nguyen Van Lien - Deputy Squadron Leader of Squadron 1, Regiment 940 - the soldier who found both pilots after many hours of wandering in the forest - said that after determining the initial location of the two pilots in Vinh An commune (Tay Son district), the forces approached and found Lieutenant Colonel Quan at 8:00 p.m., and Colonel Son was found at 10:00 p.m. (night of November 6).
"The location where the two pilots were found was only a few hundred meters apart, but the mountain road was dangerous, so to get there we had to take a detour, which took a lot of time," said Mr. Lien.
According to Mr. Lien, because of the comradeship, even though they had to cross forests and streams for many hours in heavy rain, it could not stop the team's will to find the two pilots.
"When I met Mr. Son and Mr. Quan, they were in high spirits even though they were a bit tired. I was so happy I cried because I saw that they were still healthy," Mr. Lien said.
