On the afternoon of June 6, many areas in Ho Chi Minh City and the South experienced widespread thunderstorms after a prolonged hot weather from the morning.

According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning data shows that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing thunderstorms with lightning in many areas in Ho Chi Minh City.
Cloudy areas are affecting wards and communes including: Cau Ong Lanh, Binh Tien, Tan My, Tan Hung, Phu Dinh, Dien Hong, Tan Tao, Binh Loi, Tan Nhut, An Thoi Dong and Nha Be.
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop and cause showers, thunderstorms with lightning in the above-mentioned areas, then it is likely to expand to neighboring areas. Common rainfall is from 6-30 mm, in some places over 40 mm.
During thunderstorms, it is necessary to watch out for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain in a short time can cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
The cause of thunderstorms is due to the Southwest monsoon operating with moderate to strong intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure tends to encroach westward and raise its axis northward, creating favorable conditions for convective clouds to develop.
