Floods continue to be complicated in the eastern commune of Dak Lak, in the former Phu Yen province. In Hoa Tam commune, there are two villages Phuoc Loc and Phuoc Giang, high floodwaters caused deep flooding, completely isolating many areas. Notably, Phuoc Giang village has more than 100 households with over 600 people isolated for more than 3 days, lacking food, provisions and medical necessities.
In the face of the emergency, the forces of Military Region 5 quickly deployed relief missions. Colonel Do Xuan Hung, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, was present at the scene at night, commanding the approach points. Under heavy rain, fast-flowing water and rugged terrain, rescue forces coordinated with local authorities to find the safest approach to bring goods to the isolated area.
With the spirit of "saving people is an order from the heart", the working groups have crossed many deep water sections, successfully opening the corridor to Phuoc Giang village. By noon on November 22, the first three relief shipments including instant noodles, dry food, drinking water, medicine and medical supplies had been transported inside. The medical team that accompanied them examined and gave medicine to many people who were sick due to prolonged cold rain.
Receiving the first batches of necessities after many days of resistance, the people were moved and expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the army. Currently, units of Military Region 5 continue to survey the terrain, expand the access route to supplement additional necessities and prepare plans to evacuate people if the flood continues to worsen. The perseverance and determination of officers and soldiers are an important fulcrum to help Phuoc Giang people overcome the difficult period and gradually stabilize their lives.
Meanwhile, 2 helicopters (Mi 171 and Mi 431) of the Vietnam Air Force took off at 2:20 p.m. on November 22, carrying more than 5 tons of necessities to rescue the flooded area of Dak Lak (old Phu Yen).
