The Gia Lai provincial government is re-planning the Pleiku urban space in the direction of expanding the area, in order to synchronize traffic and tourism infrastructure to serve socio-economic development.

Establish multi-center, multi-polar growth

According to the Gia Lai Provincial Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050, the development direction of the Gia Lai urban system is organized according to a multi-center, multi-level network model, associated with growth poles, sub-regional urban areas, economic - urban corridors, urban chains and urban clusters.

By 2030, the urban system in the province is oriented to develop including type II urban areas, type III urban areas and new urbanization areas. Four type II urban areas include: Quy Nhon (expanded to include An Nhon), which is the provincial center, administrative - political center; Pleiku urban area is the western center of the province; Hoai Nhon urban area is the northeastern growth pole of the province; An Khe urban area is the growth pole, the sub-regional center of the province.

The 24 class III urban areas include: Ayun Pa, Cat Tien, De Gi, Phu My, Binh Duong, Hoai An, Van Canh, Vinh Thanh, An Lao, Ia Ly, Chu Pah, Chu Prong, Chu Puh, Dak Po, Kbang, Kong Chro, Phu Thien, Phu Tuc, Mang Yang, Ia Grai, Duc Co, An Luong, An Hoa and Ia Pa.

The adjusted plan sets a target that by 2030, Gia Lai will become a rapidly and sustainably developing province, a center of industry, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, services, tourism, semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

The province strives to grow by 10.5%/year, GRDP per capita reaching 5,900 - 6,000 USD, budget revenue over 41,000 billion VND and welcoming 18.5 million visitors.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - requested wards and communes in the Pleiku area to identify this as a unified socio-economic development space, with organic links, complementing each other. Along with Quy Nhon city, the new Pleiku city will create motivation for the whole region. In which, shaping a modern, civilized, livable mountain town, associated with key strengths in commerce, services, tourism and resorts.

Integrating Tourism into a Large Space

The Department of Construction of Gia Lai province is currently organizing the development of the Pleiku expanded urban master plan, which integrates the Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya National Tourist Area Plan. Therefore, the planning for the construction of Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya National Tourist Area (scale of about 6,300ha) must be stopped, although the province had previously organized an idea contest to develop this tourist area.

Thus, the contents on spatial development, tourism, technical infrastructure, landscape and environmental protection of Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya area will be integrated into the General Planning of Pleiku expanded urban area to ensure the unity and synchronization of the planning system.

The Provincial People's Committee also agreed on the policy of hiring foreign consulting units to coordinate with domestic consulting units to develop the plan. In which, the research will closely follow the development orientation of Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya National Tourist Area, and at the same time create a basis for implementing investment and tourism development projects in the coming time.

Leaders of Gia Lai province affirmed that Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya is a rare landscape area with special value. Planning must be implemented methodically, harmoniously between conservation and development, while investing in transport infrastructure, expanding the landscape protection area, towards sustainable development.
