Hearing that Hau Giang province will build Nguyen Chi Thanh bridge over Xa No canal, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh (Hoa Luu commune, Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province) shared: That has been the long-standing wish of many households here.
"With the new bridge over Xa No canal, I can go to work and my sick relatives can go to the city, so I don't have to go far and wide anymore," said Ms. Oanh.
For long-distance drivers like Mr. Vo Van Loi (Vi Tan commune, Vi Thanh city), the addition of a bridge over Xa No canal makes him excited, shortening the time to transport goods to the provinces.
Mr. Loi said: "Normally, to go to National Highway 61C, from my house I have to go to Vo Nguyen Giap Street which is quite far. Hearing about the new bridge, I hope it will be built soon so that transporting goods to Kien Giang and Can Tho will be closer and more convenient."
Previously, the People's Committee of Hau Giang province met to approve the preliminary design plan for the Nguyen Chi Thanh bridge and road project. The total estimated investment is 1,600 billion VND, with the provincial Management Board of Investment and Construction of Transport and Agricultural Works as the investor.
The project has a total length of about 2.6km, expected to have 6 bridge locations, 5 culvert locations; the starting point connects with the existing Nguyen Chi Thanh street and the end point intersects with 19/8 street, Vi Tan commune.
Regarding land procedures, Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Hoa requested the investor, Vi Thanh City, and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to review the land use planning. If there is not yet one, it must be urgently added to the land use planning and plan to carry out the next steps.
Once the investment project is approved, compensation work can be implemented immediately. The investor and the consultant will make an implementation plan, and it is expected that the project will start in 2025.
This is a bridge built with the design of “Casting a net - pulling a net” showing the typical features of Hau Giang province. The project helps to form a connecting axis with National Highway 61C, the main traffic route connecting Can Tho - Hau Giang; creating a premise to promote economic and social development connecting the North bank of Xa No canal with Kien Giang province.
Xa No canal is about 40km long, originating from the Vam Xang junction, Can Tho river (a major branch of Hau river) then flowing into Cai Lon river (Kien Giang), flowing into the West Sea. This is considered the vital waterway for transporting rice in the West Hau river region.
