On January 20, according to Lao Dong, the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province issued a document on terminating the operation of Then ferry connecting Yen Thach commune, Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province with Tu Da commune, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province.
According to a document from the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province, this ferry terminal officially ceased operations from January 7, 2025.
This decision was made because since Vinh Phu bridge was officially opened to traffic from August 30, 2023, the demand and traffic volume of vehicles, mainly bicycles and motorbikes, through Then ferry terminal has decreased sharply.
To ensure traffic safety and avoid wasting the budget, the Department of Transport of Vinh Phuc reported to the Provincial People's Committee on the temporary suspension of Then ferry terminal operations.
This proposal was approved. In addition, the vehicles at the Then ferry terminal had expired registration or were past their service life.
The Then ferry terminal has important historical significance, having been a strategic location during the resistance war against French colonialism. Before the Vinh Phu bridge was inaugurated, the Then ferry terminal was the main means of transport for people from the two provinces to cross the Lo River.
However, after Vinh Phu Bridge came into operation, the demand for ferry use decreased significantly, leading to the decision to terminate the operation of this ferry terminal.
