Quang Ngai - Houses, high-value ginseng gardens, and livelihoods of people are damaged and broken by storms.

Houses of many households are damaged

On September 10, the Quang Ngai Provincial Civil Defense Command continued to request communes, especially coastal and mountainous areas, to proactively respond to complicated weather developments in the next 7 days.

According to records in mountainous communes, in the past month, prolonged rain has affected the lives and production of households in Mang Ri, Tu Mo Rong, Kon Plong, Dak Long communes...

In Mang Ri commune, which is considered the "center" of hundreds of large and small earthquakes, roads are landslides in some places, and areas along rivers and streams are at high risk of landslides.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang - Chairman of Mang Ri Commune People's Committee - said: "Prolonged rain, mountains and hills are full of water, so there is a risk of large volumes of landslides. The Commune People's Committee has directed the shock forces in the villages to temporarily overcome inter-village traffic routes and roads to production areas that are affected to ensure people's travel needs.

Through review and statistics from August 20 - September 4, in Mang Ri commune, many households were affected and damaged by storms, mainly roof blowing, cracks, and wall collapses. Specifically, on August 20, 2026, 8 households suffered housing damage; on August 21, 9 households suffered housing damage; by August 22, 5 households suffered housing damage.

Heavy rain lasted for many days, a large amount of water from upstream poured in. Therefore, in Ngoc Lay village, a stream bank erosion occurred, 7 households were worried that the erosion would go deep and sweep away land and crops.

In the residential area of Ba Khen village, a taluy landslide occurred, currently there are 28 households living and there is a high risk of unsafety...

Ginseng gardens, livelihoods of people are affected

For many years, Ngoc Linh ginseng under the canopy of the old forest has been considered a poverty reduction tree for mountainous people. People diligently protect the forest, care for each ginseng tree and patiently wait for many years for the precious ginseng tree to mature.

However, recently, heavy rain accompanied by strong gusts of wind swept through forests planted with Ngoc Linh ginseng, causing many households to suffer because trees fell and were damaged.

Mr. A Duc - residing in Dak Vien village, Mang Ri commune - said: "The ginseng garden of more than 400 trees has been continuously cared for by the family with capital and effort for 7 years. When the rain stopped, I went into the forest to see the garden and painfully watched the garden trees sag and fall.

Similarly, in Mang Chi village, Mr. A Lat's household suffered damage to 120 1-year-old Ngoc Linh ginseng plants and 95 plants from 4 to 7 years old.

A Duc household suffered additional damage of 500 1-year-old Ngoc Linh ginseng plants; in Tu Tho village, A Phuong household suffered damage of 43 8-year-old Ngoc Linh ginseng plants; in Cach Mang village, A Thinh household suffered damage of 270 2-5-year-old Ngoc Linh ginseng plants.

At the ginseng garden of the Provincial Party Committee's Base of Mang Ri commune, the tree was broken and fell onto 6 ginseng beds, damaging the entire frame and protective film protecting the ginseng beds. It is estimated that the number of ginseng trees damaged is about 900 trees, including many different ages.

While natural disasters occur, in the area near Thuong Kon Tum hydropower plant in Mang Ri commune, many large and small earthquakes still occur. The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences is still continuing to monitor these earthquakes.
