The rainy and storm season is approaching, but the urgent project remedy dossier has not been completed
In the area at the foot of Cua Tung bridge, Ben Hai commune, many concrete blocks and embankment protection components are displaced, subsided, and broken. Some locations are deeply eroded by sea waves, revealing the sand inside, causing the embankment line to become unstable.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, the sea dyke protecting Trung Giang beach was built in 2009. After more than 15 years of operation, the project has deteriorated; especially after the impact of storm No. 10, storm No. 12 and floods, the dyke section about 170m long was more severely damaged.
In which, the embankment section from the south abutment of Cua Tung bridge to the sea is about 120m long, with the entire concrete block and Tetrapod on the outside overturned and subsided, making the embankment line unstable and seriously unsafe. The continuous section about 50m long is cracked and broken, the rock layer and the bed are strongly eroded, many locations are eroded 3-4m deep, directly threatening the rear infrastructure.

Not far away, the Trung Giang community beach area also experienced serious landslides. Many sections of the embankment were cracked and broken, the ground inside was swept away, and coastal road paving tiles subsided, creating large gaps. Some landslide locations have penetrated deep into the infrastructure area serving the beach.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong - Chairman of Ben Hai Commune People's Committee said that the coastal erosion is due to storms No. 10 and No. 11 that occurred before Tet in 2025. After the erosion situation occurred, Ben Hai Commune People's Committee invited a consulting unit to dismantle the volume and submit it to Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee to request capital for remediation.
Up to this point, although the Provincial People's Committee has paid attention to and supported capital allocation, there are still obstacles in related procedures to carry out the work of direct contractor appointment or bidding.
The commune as well as the local people here want the province and departments, boards, and branches to have the most special mechanism and policy to create conditions for related procedures to soon enter construction, ensuring before the rainy season. Because from now until the end of the year, there are only 3 months left, especially when the rainy and storm season comes, the project is unfinished and cannot be constructed" - Mr. Nguyen Van Hong said.
Many landslide points need monitoring
Not only the Cua Tung bridge area and Trung Giang beach, through review, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province determined that there are still many riverbank and coastal areas at risk of unsafety during the rainy and flood season.

Specifically, the whole province currently has 37 riverbank erosion locations with a total length of about 46km and 9 coastal erosion locations with a total length of about 12km that need to be closely monitored and managed. There are also 35 hill and mountain erosion points at risk of unsafety during the rainy and flood season.
In the list of coastal erosion areas, in addition to Trung Giang beach and the bridge foot embankment south of Cua Tung bridge in Ben Hai commune, functional agencies also recorded erosion points in Bac Gianh, Bac Trach, Nam Cua Viet, Trieu Co, Cam Hong, Vinh Hoang, Dong Trach and Bao Ninh beach.

In Ben Hai commune alone, the Ha Loi Trung area is identified to have a landslide length of about 2km, affecting about 100 households and infrastructure works such as national defense roads and houses along the route. The cause is determined to be sea erosion and the impact of storms in 2025.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment warns that these areas need to be monitored and proactively implement response plans to ensure the safety of lives and property of people, infrastructure and production and business activities, especially when the rainy and storm season is approaching.
