According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, thunderstorms in the South tend to concentrate in the afternoon and evening.

In the afternoon of September 14, according to satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning, convective clouds are developing, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas of Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas.

In Ho Chi Minh City, thunderstorms appeared in many areas such as Ben Thanh, Cho Lon, Tan Thuan, Tan My, Tan Hung, Phu Dinh, Thoi Hoa, Hoa Loi, Tay Nam, Vinh Tan, Binh Co wards; Vinh Loc, Tan Vinh Loc, Binh Loi, Tan Nhut, Cu Chi, An Nhon Tay, Phu Hoa Dong, Binh My, Hoc Mon, Xuan Thoi Son, Ba Diem communes.

In the Binh Duong area, thunderstorms also appeared in Long Nguyen, Hoa Loi, Binh Co wards and areas belonging to Phu Giao and Phuoc Hoa communes.

In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above areas, then it is likely to expand to neighboring areas.

Common rainfall is 5-20 mm, in some places over 30 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain may cause localized flooding in some low-lying areas.

According to the weather pattern forecast for the next 24-48 hours, the intertropical convergence zone will have its axis through about 13-16 degrees North latitude, connected to the tropical depression moving mainly in the Northwest direction and entering the mainland area from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri, then weakening.

Southwest monsoon is active with moderate intensity. Wind convergence is operating well in the area in the next 24 hours, then moves westward and weakens. Above, the southern branch of subtropical high pressure tends to encroach westward, with its axis passing through the South China Sea area.

In the next 3-10 days, the intertropical convergence zone will have its axis through the Central Central region and be weakly active. From about September 17-18, the intertropical convergence zone will lower its axis to the South, through the South Central region and the South, and at the same time become stronger. From about September 17, wind convergence will resume in the South region.

Therefore, in the Southern region, rain mainly appears in the afternoon and evening, the rain area tends to narrow, and the number of heavy rain points decreases. The Southern region mainly has scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain.

Rain in the South tends to increase again from around September 17.
