Floods in Lao Cai cause landslides, cause heavy damage to traffic

Lao Cai - Heavy rain caused floods or landslides in some areas of the province, causing damage to traffic and housing.

On the evening of June 21, statistics from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Lao Cai province showed that as of the afternoon of the same day, floods had affected 6 houses (1 house in Lung Vai commune, Muong Khuong district was damaged by landslides; 5 houses in Bao Ha commune, Bao Yen district were flooded).

For agricultural production, floods and rains have broken and buried 2.4 hectares of rice (1.75 ha Muong Khuong; Bac Ha 0.67 ha); 1 irrigation project in Ban Lap Ha village (Nam Det commune, Bac Ha district) with broken dam units; 1 buffalo in Kim Son commune was swept away by floodwaters.

Regarding traffic, floods and rains have caused landslides at some points on National Highway 4D (Km 163+700, km164+800), the section passing through Muong Khuong district; Provincial Road 154 (in Ban Lau commune), Provincial Road 161 (in Bao Ha commune) and some inter-commune traffic routes, rural traffic were eroded or damaged.

In addition, on the road connecting National Highway 4E to Nam Det Commune (Bac Ha), there were landslides at 3 locations with over 300 m3 of rock and soil, causing traffic disruption.

Currently, the road to the center of Nam Det commune has repaired the landslides and reopened the route, ensuring traffic can return.

Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, the Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of the districts directed specialized agencies, People's Committees of communes and towns to mobilize forces to support households to overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives.

According to the forecast of the Lao Cai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, on the night of June 21-22, localities in the province will have rain, some places will have very heavy rain, need to be vigilant against thunderstorms, flash floods, and inundation.
