According to a report by the Son La Provincial Civil Defense Command updated to 5:30 PM on July 17, prolonged heavy rain has caused flash floods, landslides and landslides in many localities.
The natural disaster completely collapsed 3 houses, dozens of households had to be urgently evacuated, many traffic routes and infrastructure works were damaged, the initial total damage is estimated at about 35 billion VND.

Regarding housing, floods completely collapsed 3 houses in Ngoc Chien commune; 10 households had to be urgently relocated, including 8 households in Ngoc Chien commune, 1 household in Quynh Nhai commune and 1 household in Chieng An ward. In addition, 16 households located in landslide-prone areas have been evacuated to safe places by local authorities.
Notably, in Long Cang village, Ngoc Chien commune, the risk of landslides is still complicated. Mr. Chang A Dang, Secretary of the Party Cell, Head of Long Cang village, said that cracks and landslides have appeared on the hillside on the village, posing a very high risk of landslides.
Right in the evening of July 17, the locality urgently evacuated 5 households affected by floods and 5 households in landslide-prone areas to safe places.
Currently, there is still rain in the area. When the rain stops, local forces will continue to support people to move property and livestock out of the dangerous area," said Mr. Chang A Dang.
Floods also caused great damage to agricultural production, damaging 35.2ha of rice, 5ha of corn, cassava; sweeping away 1.5 tons of farmed fish, causing additional loss of about 600kg of fish and affecting 2,500m2 of aquaculture ponds.

The traffic system is seriously affected. 33 landslide points have appeared on national highways, of which 4 points that were previously blocked have been overcome, ensuring traffic. For provincial roads, 510 landslide points and 60 blocked points were recorded.
By the afternoon of July 17, functional forces had only cleared 6 points, and 54 points were still cut off, mainly on DT. 109 route.
In addition, floods swept away the overflow bridge in Ke village, Ngoc Chien commune; damaged and silted up 8 canals and ditches, 1 domestic water supply project and swept away 1 transformer station in Muong La commune.
According to initial statistics, total damage caused by floods in Son La province is estimated at about 35 billion VND, of which damage to the transportation system alone is about 16.6 billion VND.
Localities are mobilizing forces and vehicles to overcome the consequences, and at the same time review areas at risk of landslides to proactively evacuate people.
People are advised to closely monitor weather developments, not to go through deep flooded areas, fast-flowing water and landslide-prone points.
