Water levels of hydropower reservoirs nationwide on May 17

The water level of many hydropower reservoirs across the country fluctuates below the normal water level, and some large reservoirs in the Northwest are discharging electricity with high flow rates.

According to data from Vietnam Electricity Group, at 12:30 PM on May 17, in the Northeast region, Tuyen Quang Lake recorded an upstream water level of 109.52m, the water inflow to the lake reached 171m3/s and water discharge has not been carried out.

In the Northwest, terraced reservoirs on the Da River continue to operate for power generation. Lai Chau Lake reached a water level of 288.24m, water flowing to the reservoir 186m3/s. Ban Chat Lake is at 437.55m, Huoi Quang Lake reaches 368.74m, both have not been discharged.

Notably, Son La Lake has a water level of 203.31m, the water inflow to the lake reaches 95m3/s; the total discharge volume for electricity generation is up to 2,385m3/s.

Hoa Binh Lake reached a water level of 105.04m, water inflow to the lake 732m3/s; total discharge through plant 2. 270m3/s. Thac Ba Lake has a water level of 51.37m, water inflow to the lake 201m3/s.

In the North Central region, Trung Son Lake reached a water level of 154.63m, the inflow and total discharge volume were both at 82m3/s. Khe Bo Lake recorded a water level of 64.44m, water inflow 4.6m3/s; total discharge output for power generation 171m3/s. Ban Ve Lake reached a water level of 182.4m and has not been discharged, while Quang Tri Lake is at 460.4m.

The South Central Coast region recorded many stable operating reservoirs. A Vuong Lake has a water level of 366.88m, water receding at 42.02m3/s. Song Bung 2 Lake reached 594.6m; Song Tranh 2 Lake reached 167.06m, water receding at 56.82m3/s. Song Ba Ha Lake discharged electricity at 120m3/s, Song Hinh Lake discharged at 19.03m3/s.

Vinh Son A, B, C reservoirs maintain high water levels but have not discharged significantly.

In the Central Highlands, the chain of reservoirs on the Se San - Serepok river system maintains normal operation. Se San 4 reservoir discharges 48m3/s of electricity; Buon Kuop reservoir discharges 15.71m3/s; An Khe reservoir discharges 8m3/s through spillways. Many other reservoirs such as Thuong Kon Tum, Pleiku, Ialy, Dong Nai 3, Dong Nai 4, Dai Ninh, Don Duong, Ham Thuan and Da Mi have not yet discharged water.

In the Southeast region, Tri An reservoir reached a water level of 57.09m, water inflow to the reservoir was 190m3/s; total discharge volume for electricity generation was 116m3/s.

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on May 17, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain. The temperature will decrease with the highest temperature around 29 - 32 degrees Celsius.

The Southern region tonight and tomorrow afternoon will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain.
