The water level of large hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern region continues to remain stable, many reservoirs are near normal rising water levels, suitable for power generation operation and ensuring reservoir safety.

According to an update from Vietnam Electricity Group, as of 9:00 a.m. on December 20, 2025, Hoa Binh Lake recorded upstream water levels at elevation of 116.25m; water flow to the lake reached 719m3/s; total discharge was 427m3/s.

At Tuyen Quang Lake, by 9:00 a.m. on December 20, the upstream water level reached 119.62 m; the water flow to the lake reached 117 m3/s; the total discharge was 113.23 m3/s.

Implementing the inter-reservoir operation process on the Red River basin, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant has closed 1 bottom spillway gate of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant, currently only maintaining power generation through generators.

As of 9:00 a.m. on December 20, Son La Lake recorded upstream water levels at 214.54 m; water flow to the lake was 190 m3/s; total discharge was 604 m3/s. Currently, the unit has closed all bottom spillways, only maintaining power generation through generators to regulate the flow downstream.

A similar situation occurred in Lai Chau Lake, where the upstream water level reached 294.7m; the water flow to the lake reached 780m3/s; the total discharge was 1,088m3/s. Currently, Lai Chau Hydropower Plant has also closed all spillways and surface spillways, only operating power generation through generators.

At Thac Ba Lake, as of 9:00 a.m. on December 20, the upstream water level reached 57.71 m; the water flow to the lake reached 128 m3/s; the total discharge was 272.85 m3/s, not discharged through the spillway.

National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, December 20, the Northern and North Central regions will have rain in some places, fog and scattered light fog in the early morning, sunny in the afternoon. Cold at night and morning.

The Southern region will have showers and thunderstorms in some places in the evening and at night, sunny during the day. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
