On the afternoon of August 4, according to Tri An Hydropower Company, the water flow to Tri An reservoir is reaching 650m3/s, raising the reservoir water level to more than 53m, the total discharge flow to downstream is nearly 400 m3/s.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Khanh Ngoc, Director of Tri An Hydropower Company, said: From the beginning of August 2026, water from upstream began to pour in a lot, currently the plant is both operating and storing water, the average operating output is about 4-5 million kWh/day, reaching about 50% of capacity.
In addition to the exploitation task, it is also necessary to ensure discharge to the downstream area to prevent saltwater intrusion, helping water plants in the downstream area to take water to serve people in Bien Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City.
Over the past time, Dong Nai city has had quite a lot of rain, but most of the water flows downstream. According to a representative of Tri An Hydropower Company, the reservoir mainly receives upstream water, from the Dong Nai and La Nga river systems flowing in. In addition, upstream there are other hydropower plants also storing water, causing limited water inflow to the reservoir.
Previously, in July 2026, the water level of Tri An hydropower reservoir dropped low, at times the elevation only reached about 50.4 to 50.8m, and some places revealed the bottom of the reservoir.
Tri An Hydropower Plant has 4 units, with a total designed capacity of 400MW. This is the largest hydropower project in the Southern region, making a great contribution to the national power grid, helping to regulate domestic water sources, production, push saline and regulate floods for the downstream area.
