Evaluation of the effectiveness of the dredging project
On August 9, Mr. Duong Mah Tiep - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - issued a document requesting the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Gia Lai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company to appraise, review, and carefully evaluate the dredging of the Ayun Ha lake and Uar dam.
These are two projects providing irrigation and domestic water for thousands of households, while combining flood prevention and control and important flood drainage in the area.
The reservoir and dam area hold thousands of cubic meters of water. Entering the flood season, the project will combine discharge and drainage of floodwater to the downstream area. Reasonable and scientific water source regulation will contribute to mitigating the impact of natural disasters and floods on the lives of surrounding people and the downstream areas of the Dun and Ba rivers.
However, according to a report by the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, every year, the Ayun Ha Lake and Uar spillway dam are often silted up with sand, gravel, and rocks. If siltation accumulates higher and higher, it will narrow the flow, making the flow rate of water stronger, and the ability to store water is reduced.
Therefore, functional sectors proposed a plan to dredge upstream and downstream sediment of the Uar dam and Ayun Ha lake, combined with recovering and classifying sand and soil materials arising during the dredging process.
Independent consultants can be hired to participate
The Provincial People's Committee requests Gia Lai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to strictly and in accordance with legal regulations, ensure the safety of works, and not cause loss of state resources and assets.
The two units mentioned above must be responsible before the law and the Provincial People's Committee for the accuracy, truthfulness, and completeness of data, documents and dossier content.
At the same time, clarify the content on the ability to clear the flow, flood drainage, water supply and impact on dam safety, sand discharge culverts, dam foot, banks and channels.
If necessary, hire a consulting unit with sufficient capacity to independently verify the survey results, dredging volume, technical solutions, project safety and estimates, as a basis for completing the plan.
Along with the key task of building 16 resettlement areas for thousands of households in disaster-stricken areas, Gia Lai is reviewing and inspecting a series of irrigation and hydropower reservoirs and dams in the area.
Functional sectors assess water storage capacity, flood prevention and control, and safety levels before the 2026 rainy and flood season takes place.
