On May 4, 2026, the Customs Department issued Official Dispatch No. 15845/CHQ-GSQL to regional Customs Sub-Departments on the implementation of measures to prevent the SAT1 serotype foot-and-mouth disease virus from entering Vietnam.
Accordingly, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 35/CD-TTg dated April 25, 2026 on proactively deploying synchronous measures to prevent, monitor and respond to the risk of foot-and-mouth disease due to the virus of the SAT1 serotype entering Vietnam.
The Customs Department requests regional Customs Sub-Departments to, based on the functions and tasks of customs authorities in accordance with legal regulations, proactively organize and synchronously implement measures to prevent, monitor and respond to the risk of foot-and-mouth disease caused by the SAT1 serotype virus entering Vietnam.
The units also coordinated with functional forces in the area to implement solutions to prevent the SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease virus serotype.
Maintain inspection, supervision, and control activities in accordance with customs laws to promptly detect and prevent illegal imports of animals and animal products.
In which, the official dispatch notes the inspection, supervision, and control of baggage of inbound people; goods transported in the form of hand-carried or sent by means of transport.
Regional customs units are also required to proactively collect information, analyze, and assess risks for key areas, routes, and subjects at high risk of illegal transportation of animals and animal products to apply inspection and supervision measures in accordance with customs laws.
Propagating and disseminating timely information to individuals and businesses about the harmful effects of transporting and trading animals and animal products at risk of infection with the SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease virus.
Propaganda is aimed at making people and businesses understand and not participate or assist in smuggling and illegal transportation of animals and animal products of unknown origin.
