On the morning of August 26, the Ministry of Construction held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the transport sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025).
Attending and giving a speech at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung shared: The country is strongly transforming to enter a new era, meeting the goal of rapid and sustainable development, meeting double-digit growth, towards the goal of 2030: Vietnam will become a developing country with modern industry and high average income. By 2045, it will become a developed country with high income.
In that context, the transportation industry must shoulder the mission of pioneering like the engineers who went before to open the road.
Reality proves that each invested road traffic project has been forming a new economic corridor, a new growth pole, new industrial - urban - service belts, contributing to the development of regions, localities and economic sectors.
Each seaport is serving import and export goods well, enhancing international integration and trade. Each airport is contributing significantly to creating momentum for tourism development.
The challenge is still huge but it is also an opportunity. The industry must identify responsibilities, missions, and worthy contributions to the cause of innovation and national development through research and investment in more scale and modern projects with a new mindset, a longer vision, and clearer efficiency.
"In the field of railways and high-speed railways on the North-South axis, national railway projects and urban railways require huge resources, hundreds of billions of dollars, and are also bringing great development opportunities to the railway industry. What the industry will do to seize this opportunity is also a question.
The work of reviewing planning, ensuring new development space linkages, developing new human resources, developing science and technology, and enhancing international cooperation are also issues that need to be focused on" - the Deputy Prime Minister suggested.
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of transportation, Minister Tran Hong Minh said that immediately after the success of the August Revolution, on August 28, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh officially signed a decision to establish the Ministry of Public Transport under the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
In 1946, in the new administration's directive "Emergency work now", Ho Chi Minh emphasized the necessity of transportation work: "Traffic is the blood vessel of the organization. Good transportation makes everything easy. If there is bad traffic, things will stagnate.
During the resistance wars of the nation, tens of thousands of cadres, engineers, and workers in the transport sector became soldiers, contributing to the victory by roads across mountains, crossing rivers, and clinging to the rain of bombs and bullets.
Typically, the legend of Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Road is the most vivid proof. Each of us will forever engrave the loving names of more than 500 Youth Volunteer Martyrs as well as at Dong Loc Intersection, 10 female youth volunteers in their twenties who have devoted their entire youth to keeping each convoy of vehicles on the front line.
In the railway and road industry, the team of engineers and workers has promoted the spirit of "Living on bridges, sticking to the road, dying steadfastly and bravely". The entire Railway industry has thousands of martyrs and more than 3,000 war invalids.
The secret shipping route - the Ho Chi Minh Sea Road - has become a legend in the resistance war against the US.
In the aviation sector, officers and soldiers have conducted thousands of flights in bullets and made dangerous landings to safely transport aid.
"Thousands of officers and workers in the transport sector have fallen in the war. Their blood has dyed every road, every meter of rail, every bridge, every port red to maintain the life of transporting weapons and soldiers throughout the resistance war. Their glorious feats are certainly not only new roads but are also widely recognized and resounding to this day and the next generations about the Blood and Flowers period on the roads - Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized.
Entering the 21st century, the transportation industry has continuously broken through, accompanying the industrialization and modernization of the country. The North-South, Hanoi - Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, Trung Luong - My Thuan expressways... have eliminated geographical gaps, connected regions across the country and promoted the socio-economic development of localities. The North-South Railway line is ranked first in the 8 most worth-iding train journeys in the world. Vietnam has a complete airport network with modern international airports such as Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Van Don and to name a few, Long Thanh International Airport - a regional-scale gateway. The seaport system is developed nationwide with a scale of hundreds of kilometers, with a through capacity of over 900 million tons/year.
The Minister of Construction emphasized: Implementing the goal of streamlining the organizational apparatus, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management, from March 1, 2025, the Ministry of Transport will be merged with the Ministry of Construction with the expectation of new development space. However, one thing is certain: no matter the circumstances, the mission of "Going forward and opening the way" of the transport sector is still intact, continued to be built with heavier responsibilities and tasks, especially in the new era, the era of national growth.
