According to Lao Dong reporters, after a heavy rain overnight, many households living on Me Suot Street (Lien Chieu District) had to stay up all night to find ways to raise their belongings, clean up their houses, and " live with the flood" right in the heart of the city.
Living in a "flooded area", Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh (born in 1974, residential cluster on Me Suot Street, Lien Chieu District) said that every time it rains, no one dares to sleep because the water rises very quickly and overflows into the house. After more than 13 years living here, Ms. Anh clearly remembers every trace of rising floodwaters, historical flood flights, years of water flooding, up to the ancestral altar, the whole family gathering on a buoy to look at all their belongings submerged in water.
Not only the residential area on Me Suot Street - a flooded hot spot in Lien Chieu District, but also the people living in Khe Can (Thanh Khe District) have been waiting for the Urban reconstruction Project with a total investment of more than 135 billion VND to be quickly implemented.
The house is only 50 square meters, but living together for about 2-3 generations, Mr. Nguyen Van Than (born in 1968, Khe Can residential area) only has one wish: hoping that the project will be implemented soon, his family can repair the small house. According to Mr. Than, he just hopes that the project will be implemented on schedule, so that households can escape the situation of living with flooding.
To cope with the flooding situation, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Trung Chinh previously gave instructions related to the implementation of Official Dispatch 5050/2024 of the Da Nang City Party Committee on the issue of implementing a series of drainage projects to soon end urban flooding.
According to the People's Committee of Da Nang City, investing in projects to ensure drainage and prevent flooding in the area, minimizing the impact on people's lives and activities and the overall socio-economic development of the city.
Informing about this content at the press conference, Mr. Vo Tan Ha - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Da Nang City - commented that the infrastructure of the central urban area of Da Nang City is currently lower than outside, causing local flooding, unable to drain water in time when it rains heavily.
Mr. Ha analyzed that previously the ground level was at a frequency of 5%, now the ground level is at a frequency of 1%, so the core area of Da Nang City is getting lower and lower than the outside, and the drainage is not synchronously connecting the old and new urban areas.
According to statistics from the Da Nang Department of Construction, the whole city has 124 locations at risk of flooding when there is heavy and extreme rain, the most of which are Thanh Khe district (41 locations), Lien Chieu (29 locations), Cam Le (18 locations)...
Of which, there are 10 key locations and areas that are often experiencing severe flooding during rain such as the area around Thac Gian - Vinh Trung Lake; Hai Ho Street; the area of 640 Trung Nu Vuong Embankment; Phong Bac Canal area; Me Suot Canal area; Nui Thanh Street area; Le Tan Trung Street area; Hoa Khanh Industrial Park gate area; Khe Can culvert downstream area and Yen The - Bac Son canal area.
