According to the report, by the end of 2022, Nghe An has more than 16,000 poor households and households in especially difficult circumstances living in temporary, dilapidated houses. Faced with this situation, in February 2023, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee launched the 1838 Program with the goal of eliminating 15,700 temporary and dilapidated houses by the end of 2025.

After the Central Government launched a program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide, Nghe An province reviewed and added meritorious people, bringing the total number of houses in need of support to 20,802 units. With high determination, by the end of July 2025, the whole province had completed the construction and repair of all of these houses, reaching 100% of demand.

Of the total 20,802 houses, 10,678 houses were supported from socialized sources; 6,950 houses from two National Target Programs; 3,714 houses from the housing support program for people with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives. The total mobilized resources are more than VND 3,116 billion and millions of working days.

Concluding the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Khac Than highly appreciated the synchronous participation of the entire political system, the sense of responsibility of leaders at all levels, the cooperation of enterprises, organizations and individuals inside and outside the province. The Provincial Party Secretary emphasized that the program not only brings solid roofs but also strengthens the people's trust in the Party, the State and socio-political organizations.

The Provincial Party Secretary suggested that in the coming time, the province should urgently start construction of resettlement areas, ensuring that people affected by natural disasters have houses before the Lunar New Year 2026; at the same time, continue to mobilize social resources, link housing support with sustainable livelihoods, vocational training, and stabilize people's long-term lives.

With the achieved results, Nghe An province is honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President; an individual was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister; many other collectives and individuals were awarded by all levels for their outstanding achievements in implementing the program for the period 2023-2025.
