Love in the heart of the flood
The recent storm No. 10 left the western part of Nghe An with severe "sores": Roofs blown off, crops submerged in water, schools and public works damaged. However, in the midst of that desolation, the solidarity and sharing spirit of policy creditors shine like spots of fire warming people's hearts.
Quy Chau commune is one of the localities most severely affected. Prolonged heavy rain forced nearly 2,000 people in 500 households to be urgently evacuated. Hundreds of houses were flooded from 80cm to 3m deep, many roads were cut off, the total estimated damage was more than 150 billion VND.
Amidst the chaos, when people had not yet had time to return to their homes after the flood, officers of the NHCSXH Quy Chau Transaction Office arrived very early, bringing relief gifts and a heart to share.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, village 4, Quy Chau commune - one of the households that suffered heavy damage - emotionally said: "Thanks to bank staff coming to help clean up and support necessities, my family has temporarily stabilized our lives."
What makes many people admire is that while the headquarters of the Quy Chau Social Policy Bank Transaction Office was also submerged in floodwaters of more than 1.5m, the houses of many officials were flooded, they still put aside their difficulties to help the people. Every day, dozens of officers wade through mud, cleaning, repairing houses, and sharing bags of rice, bottles of water, and medicine.
Mr. Dang Xuan Huy - Director of the Quy Chau Social Policy Bank Transaction Office - shared: "Right at the time of storm No. 10, the Provincial Social Policy Bank Trade Union supported 11 households in village 4 that suffered heavy damage, each portion including goods and cash worth 800,000 VND. We also mobilized union members to donate 25 million VND to support people in flooded areas. As a bank for the poor, we determine that accompanying the people is not only a responsibility but also our sentiment and mission.
Spreading love throughout the West of Nghe An
Not only in Guizhou, in the districts of western Nghe An such as Tan Ky, Muong Xen, My Ly, Tuong Duong, Tam Quang... floods also caused serious damage. To promptly share difficulties with people, the Nghe An Provincial Branch of the Bank for Social Policies has implemented many emergency support activities.
The bank has donated 50 million VND to support the two communes of Tan Phu and Nghia Hanh; visited three families with relatives who died in floods in Giai Xuan and Tan Phu communes, each household was supported with 5 million VND; and also donated to Giai Xuan, Tien Dong, Nghia Dong, Tan Ky and Tan An communes with a level of 2 - 3 million VND/commune. The total amount of support for the Tan Ky area is 78 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam - Chairman of Nghia Hanh Commune People's Committee - emotionally said: "We would like to thank the VBSP for its timely support. While the locality is still full of difficulties, the presence of you is a great source of encouragement.
At Anh Son Social Policy Bank Transaction Office, responding to the call of the Provincial Social Policy Bank Trade Union, all officers in the unit voluntarily contributed 13 million VND to support people in affected areas. On October 7, the unit also organized a program to present 1,000 notebooks and 350 pens to students of Thanh Son Primary School, Thanh Binh commune. Although the gift is small, it contains great affection, helping children have more determination to overcome difficulties and study well.
Joining hands to rebuild life
Natural disasters and floods are not uncommon in the Central region, but storm No. 10 this year is considered one of the biggest storms in many years.
Immediately after the storm, the Bank for Social Policies Transaction Houses in Anh Son, Tan Ky, Quy Chau... quickly took action. Credit officers coordinate with the government and trusted organizations to review and assess the extent of damage, guide people to access preferential capital sources, and support production recovery.
Not only stopping at local support, the Central Social Policy Bank Trade Union has also donated 300 million VND to Nghe An province through the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee to help people in flooded areas. Previously, the unit had supported 200 million VND to help the province overcome the consequences of storm No. 3.
Officers and employees of Nghe An Province's Bank for Social Policies Branch also voluntarily contributed nearly 190 million VND in salaries to directly give to each household and each officer affected. Each envelope, each gift is a word of encouragement, lighting the fire of compassion in the midst of difficult days.
