After merging with Quang Nam, Da Nang City will have a total of 94 commune and ward-level administrative units. Of which, 23 wards, 70 communes and 1 Hoang Sa special zone. Each unit has: The Party Executive Committee consists of 2031 members. The Standing Committee consists of 711 members, one Party Secretary is officially appointed. The Da Nang City Party Committee also appoints key officials as City Party Committee members or officials with experience from two old localities to ensure inheritance and stability when operating the new apparatus.
After the merger, Da Nang has an area of nearly 12,000km2, being the largest centrally-governed city in the country.
In addition to Hoang Sa special zone (with Party Cell Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of the special zone being the Director of the Department of Home Affairs), Da Nang also has 2 island communes that do not implement the arrangement: Tam Hai commune (old Nui Thanh district) and Tan Hiep commune (belonging to Cu Lao Cham archipelago, old Hoi An city).
Of which, Tan Hiep island commune (Cu Lao Cham) is nearly 16km2, including 8 small islands: Hon Lao (also known as Hon Cu Lao, the largest), Hon Kho Me, Hon Kho Con, Hon La, Hon Dai, Hon Mo, Hon Tai, Hon Ong. The island's population is more than 3,000 people. Cu Lao Cham is only 18km from the mainland, an attractive tourist destination adjacent to Hoi An with more than 250,000 visitors each year.
Tam Hai island commune is only over 15km2, with about 7,000 people. People mainly exploit seafood at sea. It is a small island near the coast, at the end of the old Quang Nam province, a means of transportation obstruction, but creates a favorable position for the Ky Ha deep-water seaport. Tam Hai has great potential for tourism development in the future.
