Thanh Hoa - In the early days of the new year, fishermen in the sea areas of Thanh Hoa are busy going out to sea to catch sea snails and many other valuable seafood.

According to records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, in the first days of the new year 2026, fishermen in Thanh Hoa sea areas urgently prepare fishing gear to go to sea. For them, going to sea on the first day of the year is not only to generate income but also to pray for a new year of smooth sailing, shrimp and fish filling the holds.

In the sea areas of communes and wards such as Hoang Tien, Hoang Thanh, Tien Trang, Quang Binh, Nam Sam Son..., from early morning, fishermen have rushed to bring small capacity boats out to sea to "hunt" for nearshore seafood.

This New Year's Day, we invite each other to go to the sea, 1 to 2 nautical miles from the shore to catch sea snails, squid, crabs, shrimp. Because we go near the shore, we can go out to sea once a day. If the weather is favorable, fishermen can also earn a decent income every day," Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (fisherman of Quang Binh commune, Thanh Hoa province) shared.

According to many fishermen in Quang Binh commune, during this year's New Year, seafood prices tend to increase. After each trip to sea, as soon as the boat docks, traders are waiting to buy, prices are stable and higher than usual days.

Records in the sea area of Quang Binh commune show that in the first offshore trips of the new year, fishing boats brought in a fairly abundant amount of seafood, most of which are sea snails (also known as sea shrimp).
