Early in the morning of January 6, a fairly thick layer of frost appeared on the top of Phia Oac (Thanh Cong commune, Cao Bang province), when the temperature in the area dropped below 0 degrees Celsius.
According to information from officials working at the FM broadcasting station of Voice of Vietnam on Phia Oac peak, ice began to form from dawn and gradually dissipated when the temperature increased. At the time of ice appearing, the recorded temperature was about -1 degree C.

Records at the scene show that ice is densely embedded in high tree branches and roadside lawns, creating a white, magical scene in the harsh winter.
Phia Oac is 1,931m above sea level, considered the "roof" of the west of Cao Bang province. This area has a specific climate, often experiencing frost, even ice and snow during severe cold spells.

Ms. Nguyen Tra My (tourist) said that when she heard the news of Phia Oac ice appearing, she and her friends went up the mountain to record images. "The scenery is very beautiful and majestic," Ms. My shared. However, functional forces advised people and tourists to move cautiously because the road to the top of the mountain is steep and slippery due to rain and ice.
According to forecasts, in the coming days, the temperature in Cao Bang will continue to drop deeply, with the risk of frost still appearing in high mountainous areas. Talking to PV, leaders of Thanh Cong commune said that prolonged rain combined with low temperatures may cause frost to continue.
Faced with extreme weather developments, functional sectors recommend that people proactively cover barns and protect crops and livestock to limit damage caused by severe cold and frost.
